Thank God for this site,. please read folks!
Hello
Its taken me over a year to get here.. and ive suffered greatly not knowing what the hell is going on with me. All I know is that I started out with a couple of symptoms,. then they got worse,. and more symptoms came along as the time went on. Been to numerous docs, specialists, they cant find anything. They think its anxiety,. so i believed them, went on their anti anxiety meds,. and still was suffering (Plus had a hell of a time getting off the damn meds!) All I got is theories as to what is causing the problems. At first I thought it was a virus or bacterial issue,. and it turned out it wasnt. I thought I may have been poisoned with some tainted pot or food or something, that wasnt the case. various theories and all seemed to fail. Then I realized something, my condition seemed to get worse when i was at my computer staring at the monitor. Also, I noticed that the problem started soon after I got my new 22 inch LG LCD monitor. It started with muscle spasms/twitching in arms and abdomen, and then spread all over body. Then muscle weakness, pain, soreness. Then palpitations. Then breathing issues, tightness in chest. Then puffy, burning eyes. Then spinal pain. Then extremely sweaty palms. Then loss of weight, seems like my metabolism is super fast.
I started to look up info on the twitching and came across an anxiety/mental disorder forum where someone started a thread on twitching. In that thread , some user posted this message:
Hello
If you want the twitch's to go away I have the answer!!!!!
you are getting stressed over these but thats not the cause, its your computer use / monitor refresh rate, trust me if I use a computer with a refresh rate lower than 100hz I get them for days in every muscle, trust me either up the refresh rate, or take a week break from computers and boom they have gone!
the refresh rate is like a strobe, but its strobing 60 times a second, the eye may find it hard to detect but my brain does'nt.
I bought a new 100hz monitor and have'nt looked back, but after playing a game on my friends 85hz monitor I started getting the old finger and arm twitch.
Hope this helps, Im guessing the more research online you did the more you got them, nightmare..............good luck and relax
if anyone is interested the forum link is:
http://www.uncommonforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=12180&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30
after reading that,. i felt that "oh i think i may be onto something here" and then thought to myself that what he was saying DID make sense, as the symptoms seemed to have started after i got the new monitor PLUS i started spending MANY hours at the computer per day sumtimes the whole day!
and i did this not for 1 day or a week, but months and months. And month after month, ive gotten worse and worse. I dont know if ive soaked in a ton of radiation or what. I dont know how to get rid of it. I dont know what to do..
From what he is saying is that i need to get a monitor with a refresh rate higher than 100hz,.. this can be done. It will cost me almost 400 dollars but i can get a LCD monitor with a 160hz refresh rate from best buy. But will it solve my symptoms / problems for sure? I dont know. Maybe you guys can tell me? I will wait for responses before I make the purchase.
I just found this site and have a lot to read.
I hope that ive found the reason to my symptoms and hope to find the solution.
I ask for the help of this community. I ask you all to tell me what works,. what products I should buy to end my suffering. What I can do to end my symptoms, and what products I should get which are safe and will not give me any issues.
I also would like to know if there is any way, medically or not, to test for how much radiation ive soaked in my body.
The first step ive done now is lower the brightness on my monitor.
I really hope to hear back from as many people as possible.
I thank you all for your time reading this.
-B

Re: Thank God for this site,. please read folks!
Great post. I happy to see you have the same symptoms especially muscle twitching , underweight, fast metabolism related to anxious state.
But I agree that screen monitor is a cause of these symptoms.
I think a 100 or 160 Hz monitor will not help (maybe i'm wrong, that's just my opinion) because LCD doesn't have refresh rate as CRT monitors. A 85Hz CRT is better than 60 Hz CRT (less flash). But on LCD this is the rate of erasure of screen, not of the light source.
I have tested CRT, LCD and projector. From my experience, LCD is the worst and projector the best but too much hours give the symptoms. Maybe a very good LCD is better i don't know.
About colors :
I tried to change colors of monitors. Defintly blued screeen is the worst ! With blued screen I have two time severe blured vision episodes.
I have a new idea : turn on black and white monitor screen. It seems possible with ati software but i have nvidia card :/
I think muscle twitching works like this :
Computer light(stress) => adrenaline => magnesium depletion => muscle twitching, anxiety...etc
In theory, after 30 or 40 min under stress, a second stress hormone is released : cortisol. Are artificial light exposition abuse leading to cortisol depletion ?
I'm very interested by the effect of light on cortisol, adrenaline and other but there are few scientific documents :/
Ihave seen people complain to have the same problem when under fluorescent lights...
How to make the light less stressful ? That is the question...

The refresh rate on LCDs is a Gimmick since LCDS don't go by refresh rates like CRTs do.
I'm not sure if the backlight flicker faster or whatever I doubt it will help since LED backlights seems to giving people problems too.
Your best bet is to get a Trinitron monitor off ebay =) Dell P991 is good or I'm sure their are plenty of 17" ones out there.
LCDS just play havock withe the nervous system in SOME poeple it's either the brightness or what Sorezn said the body doesn't know how to react to it.
Hope for Canon to put out some SED TV or Monitors in the next couple of years which should solve the problem or maybe not.
I don't think OLED is the answer either but it might be since it's a different type of LED light then the ones you see in Headlights.

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=p991
Try one of these I think the P991 are all the same they were made in Mexico back in 2000-2001. I have a beige one not black
The refresh rate on these shouldn't matter because it's a nice monitor to begin with. There is a 24" Trinitron but it's really really heavy has a 100hz refresh rate and is hard to find.
If you go to the website Hard Forums they have a buncha loyal followers there.
The graphics card can make a difference too
so can the motherboard.
I have a 6600 PNY AGP card I've been using for the past 4 years or so it's been great I tired upgraded and I got eyestrain.
So I'm either real sensitive or their is something buggy with the technology.

Re: Thank God for this site,. please read folks!
I'm just crossing my legs that SED comes out sometime in the next few years.
But I really need to stay off the net =)
LCDS are the worst garbage ever to fill a landfill I only had luck with a really old Laptop back in 2001 but sold it.
We get these cheap ass LCDs off the truck at Walmurt they make me cringe because they are of such eye blinding quality.
