color vs monochrome
One theory I have wanted to try for some time is if color monotors cause more eye strain.
I think fluorescent lighting (from LCD's, overhead) are the primary cause of my headaches, but..
I read some old posts from the early 90's on some computer forums, and some engineers insisted that they had lots of headaches after switching from monochrome monitors to color monitors. One theory was that since a pixel is split into 4 seperate colors, you have less focus, whereas a monochrome monitor has only 1 color per pixel and is therefor much clearer and easier on the eye.
I don't know if this would solve everything but it might help a litle.
One problem though is finding a good monochrome. They mostly have very small screens (14") and very low resolutions (640x480). I found one modern monochrome maker (miracle) that works with VGA cards, but found the monitor too small and it had a poor refresh rate.
I did see that this company offers a special video card that allows a modern pc to use really old workstation monochrome monitors (that are bigger and have better resolutions):

But it's hard to find a good old monochrome for a reasonable price. For now I have decided to put the theory on hold and am instead trying a clearer crt color monitor with a low dot pitch and higher refresh rate to see if that helps.
But, if someone else wants to try the monochrome vs color theory, let me know the results!

Re: color vs monochrome
Hi, you have a point! My local post office personnel used monochrome monitors - chunky/solid/expensive ones - and they looked VERY easy on the eyes. I oggled them longingly.
Note that someone was recently in contact with me, saying that blue-blocker glasses (off Ebay) helped his computer issues, since they block blue light.
I'm curious whether anyone makes blue-blocker ENCLOSURES for computer screen (or even filters).
I myself once borrowed my father's amber-rose-color blue-blockers to experiment & see if it helps me vs. my monitor. While the rose-glasses caused the world to take on a gorgeous hue, yet they failed to help me vs. my computer symptoms.
Good luck...
