Need Help FAST!
My 8 month old CC has been chewing furniture in my new house! She has chewed on base board trim, dining room tables, staircase spindles, put 3 holes in my new carpet and has eaten 2 remote controls. She does this when I am not home. We have another a dog and they get along great, so I don't think it is bordom. If she doesn't stop soon I will have to give her away and I don't want that, however, the damage is already around 2,000 dollars worth and I can't have it. ANY IDEAS?

Re: Need Help FAST!
Make sure she gets a good bit of excercise before you leave & then crate her! Crating her will keep her safe while you are gone. Not only will it save your home in repair costs, but will keep you from a tragic accident. She could easily get something lodged in her throat, compacted in her intestines or get poisoned by getting into something she shouldn't.
Make her crate a friendly environment - she may not be able to have bedding in there if she eats it. But put some kong toys in there for her to stay entertained. She might grow out of needing the crate or she may need it forever. You'll just have to see how your Corso does.

Re: Need Help FAST!
Crate
Excercise
Dog food filled kongs
the "leave it" command
That should just about do it!

Re: Need Help FAST!
Thanks for the advice. I crated her for a good while while house training her. I don't want to crate her forever, at what point can I just let her rome the house with the other dog? I always felt it was kinda cruel for her to be caged up when the other dog can prance around.

Re: Need Help FAST!
WE - meaning people - have this conception that the dog really needs to have free roam of the house. Doggy doesn't. People & dogs do not think about or feel the same way. Don't emotionalize this.
What do you think the dogs do when you aren't home? Jazzercise? Keg party? Of course, I'm just kidding you. I wondered this too, so we set up a camera in our house one day because we wanted to see if our dogs played together while we were gone.
Know what they did? SLEEP. ALOT. Every now & again they might get a drink or look out the window, but mostly it was sleeping.
Every dog is different. Yours may grow out of eating everything in the house with excercise & age. Maybe she only needs a few weeks/months, maybe she needs until 2 years, maybe she'll need it forever. Just see how she is.

Re: Need Help FAST!
LOGICS are crate her and you wont have to get rid of her, dont crate her and she may cont. to eat stuff, chew stuff, and perhaps even get super ill or worse DIE!
Crating is the lesser of the evils presented, think of it this way. If you dont crate her and get rid of her how can you be sure to know the new home is taking proper care of her?
Exercise also plays a major roll in this thing called seperation anxiety.
Trust me i have been there, i have been past the 5k mark in recovering destroyed items. Were talking
the whole carpet in one whole room CHECK,
a hole chewed straight through a solid yes SOLID wood door CHECK,
sofa CHECK,
pillow top queen bed CHECK,
all of my husbands shoes CHECK,
all the blinds CHECK,
door frames CHECK,
door knobs [all of them] CHECK,
Window frames CHECK
do i really need to go on? Things that just to not make any sense to chew CHECK CHECK CHECK CHECK!
Ey..gotta love em!

"Things that just to not many any sense to chew CHECK CHECK CHECK CHECK!"
How many times have I stood there going, "Why would you want to eat this?"

Re: Need Help FAST!
My dog is 5 months old and I am still crating her - she might have to be crated much longer. No way I can trust her. She also chewed up the baseboard - that will be a real pain to replace.

Re: Need Help FAST!
I must be really lucky...
my boy seems to prefer dog toys and treats to chew than furniture, shoes, etc.... he has only destroyed one remote control, and thats because we have a deal, and a guest broke the deal by leaving the remote on the floor. A smack on the nose with the remote was enough for him to not want to upset mommy(me) and he nasnt felt the need to destroy anything other than "stuffies" (they are his 'drug' of choice). and he has to have his blanket he chews little pieces off of... but he only chews up HIS blankie and he gets an occasional stuffy from the dollar or thrift store
Another thing, I dont and never have crated him, and he would rather hang out in the car than at home alone//// anyone else have this issue?
ok, he may be spoiled, but he is extremely well behaved for an 11 month old pup.
