Training?
Hi Everyone,
We are new to the board. Our CC is 10 months old today and we are extremely happy with him...most of the time. He listens very well to my husband but I am having serious issues with him biting me - he actually nipped at me from the first hour we brought him home - I did all the things the books say - finger down the throat, high-pitched voice, ignoring and walking away, etc. I know he sees me as the playmate - he doesn't leave me alone...recognizing that I did not properly establish my ranking on the food chain when he was a baby, I really would like to know if anyone else has the same issues - or advice on what I can do. I'm not enjoying him right now and really want to change that.
Thanks.

Re: Training?
where to start..... from the start you should have exchanged your arm,leg,ect... with a toy if you plan on training this dog in Schh or as a PPD. If not then the rolling on the side thing should help if you keep at it. But also make sure to work on basic training like making him sit before you take him out of his crate, house, back in the house.....

Re: Training?
I have the same nipping problem with my 7 month old Cane Corso. I have tried all the suggestions. I have had her since she was 4 weeks old and have always done all the Alpha stuff - making her sit for food, to go out, etc., etc. - walking in the door before her, alpha rolling - still nothing is working - I am looking for a trainer now. I am almost ready to give up and find her another home. I would make sure she has a good home - I would never dump her.

Re: Training?
Nancy, please PLEASE do not give up. I will give you any help I can but we need more info on when it happens ect.. It might just be her prey drive coming out because she has no other activities prey related to release it. Any details would be great!

Re: Training?
Giving her up does not solve the problem, it just transfers to someone else. You just need the right tools to handle the job. You wouldn't go mow 5 acres of grass with scissors! Sure you could, but....Work with a trainer. EVERYONE will be happier in the long run.
At one point I started to feel like my 2 Corsos were not respecting me. I mean they didn't defy, but they wouldn't be as crisp to respond to direction. I noticed a change when I started serving their dinner & all treats - all of which required a sit & stay. I also had to start working with them more individually on obedience.

Re: Training?
Hi,
I once had an American bulldog who had a lot of prey drive. I tried everything from bitter apple to pushing her lip into her tooth. She was my baby but she was a natural born block head, as most bulldogs are, and nothing could discourage her. I finally found something that worked like a charm. People will tell you not to do this, but if you have a hard case, its sure to work. Use her kennel for time outs. She bites and you say "no." She does it again and she gets a time out. Start with 5-15 minutes usually does the trick. But, never let her out until she has whined a little. You'll have the problem fixed in about 1 week.
