question about training and cane corso development
Hi,
I have potty trained dozens of pets and foster dogs over the years and never had a problem with any of them. I use habituation to train dogs - taking them out to potty every 30 minutes until they get so accustom to going outside that inside just wont do. Then, gradually increasing the time intervals as they age and become physically able to hold it for longer periods of time. Then, I teach the dog to signal when they want to go. In my experience it takes about 3 weeks to potty train a dog. Unfortunately my poor corso, Lucious, is the exception to the rule. I've had him since he was only 3 months old and now at 15 months, he still does number 2 in the house at least 2 times per month! Sometimes he will signal by barking, other times he wont. I work from home so he has at least a dozen opportunities a day to do his business. I just dont get it. He's such a smart dog, he's already completed his 3rd level of dog training, but he just cant seem to master this. I know these dogs develop slowly, but isn't this excessive? Has anyone else had this experience with their corso?
Thanks,
J.
