Re: Feed prices

Soya still high for the winter at 250-260 quid del. Not as high as spot though. There hasn't been any regular soya at the docks for more than a week now due to the strike in South America. Boat due in soon, but have to buy some high tracibility GM-free soya at well over 300. Its all they have. emoticon

Re: Feed prices

Apparently early in 2007 a particular arable pundit told an arable meeting that wheat prices would double by the end of the year. Everyone laughed, but he was proved right.

Same man is predicting the same thing again this year, which would take prices close to £300/tonne!

Does anyone want to buy a couple of milking robots? Looks like we may all have to head over to the NZ system. Unfortunately, I don't think the cows or the farm would take the transition too well.

Personally, I can't see cereal prices going much higher. They do need to be where they are now for arable sums to add up at all, but there will be a lot of downward pressure over the summer, IMO.

Talking to the farmer I get my straw from I'm not sure the arable sums are any better than the dairy at this point in time. Good enough to stop them giving up, but not enough staying in their pockets to re-invest what's needed.

I was pricing soya bean meal today, anyone else suggest a high protein straight to use in a 2 way mix that would save a few2 pennys.

the price on Canola was at one time reasonable compared to Soy. Otherwise if you live near a brewery wet brewers grain will fit nicely into a mix if you have a place to store it.
