Does old circulation water control dermitis in footbaths?

I want to know if anyone has experience of re-cycling their ciculation water into their footbaths, and wether or not it works as a cheap alternative to control dermitis?
Currently we walk the cows through a formalin or a copper sulphate solution 3 times a week, which has pretty much erradicated the problem. My circulation water contains hypochlorite.

Re: Does old circulation water control dermitis in footbaths?

Been using it for about 8 months. Is working great at the moment but a large part may be due to the un-favourable weather conditions for the pesky bugs. had trouble when first started using it but was a particularly bad few months for bug growth warm and moist etc. Hit it hard with a combo of linco and formalin, then went down to formalin once a week with parlour washings every day now just solely on parlour washings say twice a day four times a week.

Repeat though feet are very clean at this time of year and weather conditions are definately on our side. Will watch carefully again come winter

another point was a bit concerned about the feet going soft with stopping the use of the formalin. But has made no difference and are as hard as ever.

Does old circulation water control dermitis in footbaths?

parlour washings seem to control the problem on our farm but not reduce cases. we also use copper sulphate once a week which seems to "help". our foot trimmer seems to the copper only drys the dermitits and wont actually iradicate the disease from the foot. Bathing in linco is most effective but done on a regular basis will mean the dermitits will become more resistant and stronger concentration will need to be used as time goes on just as with teramycine ( i hear the dutch now use up to 18% when the original 2% strength was enough!)I thinkthe best control for digi is keeping the feet clean and out of the crap on the floor and im sure jsut bathing in salt water would have as good affect than anything else. If anyone has tried this i would like to know the results?

At what concentration do people add salt to a footbath?
