Maize Vs Wholecrop Vs Soda Grain

Basicly over the last few years we have increased maize acerages up to nearly 100Acres, but in a moment of clarity im suddenly wondering if its worth it.

Licing in south west cumbria we have larger quantities of rain and often sturggle to get the maize off, with the loss of Atrazine crops have suffered and i was wondering wether we should be switching to the far more flexible winter wheat.

Any thoughts?

What do you do to utilise wheat on farm?

Thanks Tom

Re: Maize Vs Wholecrop Vs Soda Grain

we use maize silage and soda grain. have to say would not lie to be without either. we are in ireland so know what you mean about battling rain in autumn.
no experience with wholecrop but my thinking would be if you can grow maize why would you grow wholecrop.
typical winter diet: grass silage, maize silage, soda grain and soya. maybe some brewers grain depending on price and availability.
summer ration: as much grass as possible with buffer feeding soda grain, brewers, little maize silage
