It will be interesting to see what the controversial Paradise calves make.
Will there be protestors at the sale? It's very close to Bristol uni where the anti-foxhunting rent-a-mob are bused in from, round here. emoticon

Equally, would you buy anything high profile into southern England until a blue tongue vaccine is available?

Re: Smiddiehill Sale

With the way the vector free period works every animal has to pass a blood test showing they are antibody free before they can leave the surveillance zone and all the Smiddiehill animals have passed that. Any animals going to Ireland will be moved to Scotland straight after the sale. I have already checked on this

That would be like the French, Dutch and German cattle, that had all passed theirs then? emoticon

Like they wouldn't have noticed? I understand they were protesting at the farm gates when the original "story" broke.

What with the calves born from clones and a Durham out of a UK cow, there are a few controversial animals in the sale. emoticon emoticon

We were told by Miklink when the original story broke that if Milklink members wanted to use clones or progeny of clones in their breeding programs then Milklink didn't want their milk because of pressure from their customers.

Re: Smiddiehill Sale

Re bluetounge.

The animals slaughtered on monday had all been tested and quarantined in the Netherlands before coming here. There is a feeling locallly that either someone in DARD has made a big mistake or else the government are out to make an example of the farmer involved so as to make others think again before importing anything.

Re: Smiddiehill Sale

We have tested all our bulls twice in the past year.

While doing the test the vet stated that it can throw up 'false positives'. He said it never missed a carrier, but in about 5% of cases a re-test would be necessary, to be sure.

I suppose if you test enough cattle, and the vet was correct, then you will get a reactor.

Ardbarron, does that include England?

This thread seems to have gone a little off topic, perhaps the BT discussion ought to be under "Main Talk"?

Presumably, the Smiddiehill cattle will all have passed a negative BT test.

Re: Smiddiehill Sale

Charryman Yes that does unfort include England, the Smiddiehill cattle might will all have passed a negative BT test but so did the heifers that were brought in from Holland and then when tested here were found to have the disease
