A judge's decision reversed
I saw something at a show yesterday that was a first for me. A judge picked out his intermediate champion of the open show and then, later in the day, selected the grand champion of the junior show. This show does not give out an award for intermediate champion of the junior show.
Well, I think the judge forgot what he did earlier. He made a 2 year old grand champion of the junior show over a 3 year old that was res. intermediate champ of the open show. (Both cows competed against each other about an hour previous for the intermediate champion of the open show.) The father of this exhibitor was extremely upset and went into the ring and told the judge that he could not do that.
A discussion followed with the show official who reversed the judge's placing. My opinion is that the judge's placing should have stood. Isn't the judge's decision always final?

Re: A judge's decision reversed
Loren Elsass did that once at our district show. He went with a second place cow for Grand. Nobody, said anything to him till the show was overwith. I think everybody had a good laugh about it except for Loren.

A judge's decision reversed
I wouldnt have thought that a show offical would have the right to do that.
I wouldve thought it wouldve had to have gone to the show commitee and possibly to the relevent breed commitee.
at local shows out here after breed classes they have an interbreed which is not made up of the breed champions but rather anyone who cares to enter.
on one occasion my husband placed a group of holsteins one way and 2 hours later reversed his decision because his reserve cow had "developed and made more milk"since he judged them prior.it is possible that the above animal changed enuf in the udder to be beaten by a younger cow.

A judge's decision reversed
I agree with you, foxleigh. Udders can change quite a bit in just an hour or two. In this particular case, the younger cow did not lead very well in the earlier judging and looked much better in the line up selection for grand of the junior show. If the judge wants to reverse his or her earlier decision, I think that is their right.

A judge's decision reversed
Its a interesting topic to be honest but i think the judges decision should of stood! As said a milker can look different in an hour or two. A couple of years ago a very well known judge did a similar thing at International Dairy Week but with heifers, in the All Australian Class he placed the heifers and then in the yearling class (the next class) he changed his second and third place getters. Very strange

A judge's decision reversed
Whats the point asking a Judge to judge the class and championship and letting his decision be overturned by a steward, perhaps the judge had thought the udder had changed or even been sorted after the earlier classes and he did not like what he saw.

Re: A judge's decision reversed
Either a mistake or the judge was pretty oourageous with a lot of guys to admit to making the initial mistake!

A judge's decision reversed
Should the judge's decision have been reversed? No.
