The cie I work with have measured hundreds of heifers at local show and at the Royal .

Here are estimation for what you need to be to compete :

local show : 54.5

Re: another size question

Just curious on your measurments, what does your figures show for December calves. I have a Dec 31st Pronto that is over 52. She was the third largest at our County fair three weeks ago. I think all three calves will be at Madison.

Re: another size question

Mine is a Pronto X Leduc X Broker Mandy so she has the genes to get big. However, we I give her a 22% protein, oats based feed.I I also walk her quite a bit so I can push her hard. I bought her as a pic and picked her up at 4months so I dont know what she was fed before that. She was bred by the Jones family of J&S Holstiens. One of the other heifers is an Advent of my neighbors that goes back to a huge Lee that has thrown huge calves before. The other calf is out of a jumper bull out of a 2yr old. NONE OF THESE CALVES HAVE SEQUA in their name, and I will leave it at that.

another size question

size is a funny thing!.....
I sent 2 late sept 08 born bulls over to the neighbours because they were serving my heifers .They want them to use in nov and when I dropped them off the trailor in the paddock they were as tall as his crossbred dry cows. That did surprise me.They were reared on 6l mik a day for 4 months ,adlib 24% calf mix for 3 months, followed by the cows grain mix 2x dailey, adlib alfalfa silage until june when we switched to straw. From the cow grain onwards it was fight for your bite along with 20 other calves.same for the silage and straw. They are richro mark sams x duncan progress x raider x astrojet and have 3 full sisters who are not quite as tall.sometimes genetics must play a part I think because everybody here gets reared the same way and not all are as big as elephants or as tall as giraffes.IN that same week 2 raiders x renegades were born and one could be considered a dwarf compared to her siter and group mates.
