Re: World Dairy Expo 2009
My guess is the million dollar cow wont make it out at all. I think she would have been beat by marla in the reds and it would be a pretty rough deal with the 5 yr old class going in the blacks. I however would respect the cow more if she showed up in the ring one of these years win or lose

Re: World Dairy Expo 2009
Goldwyn was premier sire. Five 1st's, three 2nd's and 28 in the top ten. Pretty impressive, especially when you consider the oldest one's are only 3 year olds.

World Dairy Expo 2009
WOW what a show it was!! I am pleased to say i picked the winner of every class except the four year old class!! But i do agree it would of been nice to see snickerdoodle win Supreme again, but the Frosty cow, well i said earlier in the week i fell in love with the cow and yes she did it! And she beat Rose, did everyone agree?? Rose has been milking so long and still looked outstanding in her mammary!

Re: World Dairy Expo 2009
Only watched via internet, pictures etc but what a great show. First kudos to howie, rochelle looked great! would have been my pick for int champ. Peternl i think he stated frosty over rose on her frame and strength of front end and faulted her slightly for being a little stale which was all true. I didnt know if you could do it but seeing them together i think he got it right on. Frosty is a little wider and i like the way her neck comes out of her body a bit better, also stronger in the crops. Roses udder still fantastic but not much difference if any in frosty. Could be the best 2 cows ever or at least that ive seen at one show. Having said that i dont see any way Rose could have been beat by the Leduc, awesome frame and dairy with good legs (perhaps a blood kit is needed) but udder no where near as good as roses. And i was wrong Apple did show and i think was respectable, looked good but a bit heavy to me. Hope everyone home and there got to enjoy expo, looking forward to the royal as we may make the trip.

World Dairy Expo 2009
Rose is still the queen of the ring, such quality, it really confirmed her greatness by getting reserve when she was stale. I admire Frosty for her strength and the better cow won on the day.

Thanks Sanhaven. It's been quite a thrill following her. I also watched via the internet. Planning on making it up to the Royal to watch in person.

World Dairy Expo 2009
Frosty could be the right winner, but I don't like the way she uses the rear legs.
I absolutely don't agree with mr Rueth on the 2Y Old, the Deaver Goldwyn is so tremendous, the dundee looks good but looks Dundee! My Intermediate Champion is Missy, also if the udder was not perfect (probably it is the first time that it's not Petriffer to fit and manage her), but for me Missy is the cow of the future

World Dairy Expo 2009
Just wanted to add a few comments on the facilities at Madison. I am always extremely nervous leading animals on that slick pavement. This year they did put some sand down, which helped. However, they could have used a lot more. I had a cow in the judging contest, which I'm happy to support. But I really didn't like the idea of a young person leading my cow to the ring on those surfaces. I've complained about this to show management in the past, but maybe if enough of us say something it will improve.

Re: World Dairy Expo 2009
How did the sale go? There was one supposed to come to the UK, a Mark Williams from Wales had thought he bought a calf for $2700, to find out she had actually made $27k! is this true? Thay should get rid of the bar next to sale ring!

Re: World Dairy Expo 2009
I would agree with Missy being a star in the future. Barring nothing happens to her i dont believe we have seen her at her best. Just not enough front end for me to go any further with her. I knew Rueth would go with the Dundee bc thats his kind of cow ( as he stated) Along with missy i think we'll be hearing about the breeding of Mr Howie there for a few years as well. Not much id like to change about that cow, anyone who has kids in judging and once to show them what style and balance is thats one i would look at.

Re: World Dairy Expo 2009
Kudos to Howie, I would have never guessed that a Goldwyn/Durham cross would have that much front end. She is a beautiful jr 2yr old and it will be fun to watch her develop throughout the next few years.

Re: World Dairy Expo 2009
Back from Madison yesterday. . ..what can I say?
Truly another great show, the depth and quality right down the lines was fantastic.
Frosty won and deservedly so, James Rose deserved to win her class on her udder alone, and I thought Marks comment about this in his reasons were quite amusing. . .referring to Rose's udder. . "My mother always taught me it was rude to stare, but I can't help myself when I look at this great mammary"
Nancy was indeed an awesome frame of a cow and arguably perhaps matched better with Frosty, but there was no way Nancy could stand above Rose in her class, when you stood behind them and looked at the rear doors, Rose had to win.
I too love Missy, when you stand at her side it's hard to imagine an animal with more veins running over the rib cage than she has, but her best day is perhaps yet to come, she will develop further and power out more in the months to come, it will be interesting to see what she sells for in November.
Congratulations Howie on Rochelle, she looked great in her class and won well, you just have to love her balance and rib development for a heifer of that age, and then when you looked at her udder, it was game over!
A really truly great show, for those of you that have yet to venture over there, it's well worth the air fare!

Definitely not. . .I was stood near your fellow countrymen for most of the sale and the guy in question definitely didn't even bid on an animal. . .so wherever you got your information from it's wrong!!! Even with a bar there. . .(a fantastic idea!) it would be hard to make a balls up on the auction price like you suggest. . .it gets repeated enough times!

Re: World Dairy Expo 2009
I think that the AI studs know they opened a pandora's box when they brought out genomics. In four years when breeders are allowed to test their own bulls the breeders will hold all the cards. You won't see AI studs lucking out by buying good bulls for $3500 anymore. The studs know this and are trying to buy their own female lines for flushing and future bulls.

They must have high expectations for her to be back as an older cow? She just doesn"t seem like that francise type cow?? Thats just my opinion, not taking anything away from her accomplishments so far!

Re: World Dairy Expo 2009
They are thinking that she will be a good bull mother. Here in North America sons of show cows sell well as young sires. For example Durham, Dundee, Atwood, Atlantic, Astronomical ect.
