Dupasquier Dispersal

I noticed an ad in the World for their dispersal next month. Anybody know why they are selling? Are they planning on getting back into the business?

Re: …

i would imagine jem will carry on keeping their cows in dupasquiers barn. the catalog says the sale is due to health reasons and the amount of work they have. i would imagine there is more money in their chicken business perhaps!

Re: …

There is no "perhaps" about it. They admit with no hesitation that the chickens are the bread winners there, and with very little time and work involved.

Re: …

maybe years of using certain bulls drove them to the point they didn't want to milk anymore? Mayjay, any thoughts?

Re: …

I'm pretty sure you're trying to bug me, so I'm not going to flip out by any means. I think their herd average is quite respectable for using the crappy bulls that they do. I would far sooner buy something at their sale than the sale of the stars, it would probably have a brighter future.

Re: …

We are in the same boat with regaurds to the chickens. We raise broilers and can net 40,000 per year with the chickens with one chicken house. We average less than an hours work per day with the chickens, everything is automated. Everyday I wonder if we shouldnt have built a couple more chicken houses and just played around with a dozen show cows.

Just watched a couple lots get auctioned off on Bovine Bid. Seems like they are selling quite well. Cows of that caliber should sell well, though. I like the lighted sign above the auctioneer that shows the lot number and current bid. Sure should eliminate errors.

Re: …

FYI Jem hasn't had cattle in Dupasquier's barn since Dec 2008. They are back in their former location.
