FRADON REDLINER

Does anyone know if this is a more public phenom? Does the AI company know or are they saying anything? I know birth defects happen, but we are about to put in some very valuable redliner embryo's so more info would be good.

Re: FRADON REDLINER

Well at this point, shouldnt the associations get involved? the greater public should know. He's had heavy use, even has shown up on the top registrations list on the HA web site....

FRADON REDLINER

I have heard that he is being tested for whatever defect he has. My Taurus rep had never heard of the deformity form, but he told me to call the holstein association and send them tissue samples. Disturbing to me is that the AI knows sommething is wrong, but talked to a guy last week who hadn't heard of these problems and just bought a cane. Shouldn't all semen sales stop on him? Also I would hope that semen in farmer tanks could be recalled. My calf which is now 9 weeks old is already starting to have trouble getting up and down, and neighbor recently had 2 more dead preemies.

I agree, and that is my point. but until everyone who has had problems contacts the association, I dont see how info could get out. its too bad, we have many in calf. Im still looking forward to them, but he has had tremendous use for a young bull. If they did know and keep selling him, there could be legal issues.

There could be legal issues regardless. This is a bugger, because there are bulls allowed into AI, such as those who are CV, and now you have a bull like Redliner that seems to be throwing calves with many problems. This is where DNA testing would be nice for bulls that are going to be drawn. Perhaps detect these deformaties at the DNA level, vs waiting. I hope your calves are in good shape kmosabi, nothing like hearing about a bull with problems and not knowing what to expect.

Re: FRADON REDLINER

Was having a quick look at Redliner's pedigree there.

All 4 of his grandparents go back to Roybrook Telstar at least once, 3 of which are via Hanover-hill Triple Threat.

Storm - Dewdrop Tacy - Inspiration - TT Lulu - TT - Telstar

also

Storm - Aerostar - Shady - Stephanie - Chieftain - Telstar

Leader Rose - Blackrose - TT Speckle Red - TT - Telstar

Rudolph - Aerostar - Shady - Stephanie - Chieftain - Telstar

Inspira Jodie Red - Inspiration - TT Lulu - TT - Telstar

also

Inspira Jodie Red - Threat Janice - TT - Telstar

So I can trace Telstar 6 times in this pedigree.

I only had a quick look so I could well have missed something. He is most probably inbred in other ways but I'm not going to figure all that out tonight - it's past my bedtime!

Sorry if what I have pointed out is common knowledge. I just thought I'd share my findings with you.

FRADON REDLINER

I'd like to think that by pointing out the problems to my AI rep that i've done my part. I believe that it should be on them to work with the association to get to the bottom of this mess. That said, I'd be happy to send in a sample if asked, but I've got enough stuff keeping me busy that I don't have it in me to chase wild geese with the holstein asssociation. Anybody who has dealt with them on problem solving knows what I mean.

Re: FRADON REDLINER

Second one born today: Red, both have been unassisted, both sucked on their own, both are nice calves, both have bags unfortunately. Redliner hangs his hat at Foundation, I'll find out what they know and get back to you.
