Maybe I am missing something here, but if this bull didn't carry red would he still be so hot? I am a proponent of genomics, but it seems as if the Shottle sons are predisposed to do really well on genomics tests. There are no less than 10 Shottle sons, that I know of, that are similar to Shaquille. Yet come from better looking or more productive dams? Everybody keeps telling me about how popular he is, and I keep asking why? I appreciate the outcross to Red. But what else is there that makes him a flush sire?

I agree with you totally. It is just the interest of a red factor shottle selling him. His genomic profile may be rumoured to be good - but has it actually been published anywhere yet?

Re: Deslacs Shaquille

Not sure Buckeye. I would guess the fact that he is RC is the main reason for his popularity. It could be pretty nice for the red breed if he turns out. He is certainly something different. We have a heifer we own in partnership that we agreed to breed to him, that is the main reason I got some. I like to have one young sire on hand to use on some hard breeders, and figured I've give him a shot.

He wouldnt be that different for the Red breed will he? Doesnt the dams pedigree go right back to Sept Storms family? I figured the chance of getting something red is just a shot in the dark but I like the fact he is a Shottle son from a Durham from a cow family that has made some pretty good cattle that just needed a liittle more strength and health traits. Which Shottle should add.

We would not be using him if he wasnt RC...and everyone said he tested will and Semex is using him for contracts already.

Re: Deslacs Shaquille

We're primarily using him because he's RC. Not to mention his genomic test supposedly being oustanding.

Very much don't think he'll be the next Rampage.

I think he has a little something for everybody. He's a *RC Shottle son. What's not to like? You throw a little Durham in there too.

His Genomic proof is on dairybulls.com. Looks good enough for me to use more. +1600m positive component %'s and +3.3type. I think his genomic index landed him right on 2000 tpi.
I have about a dozen cows due in September to him and going to mate him on some Miami-Red heifers I have bulling.
