GB Bulls Open Day

Any of the UK based cowtalkers attending the GB Bulls Open Dayon July 1st ?

I am planning to go over, and would be nice to see people face to face.

Am also hoping to go and see some Tregibby Gibson daughters while I am over.

Only one Ferrari calf so far, my services are more spread out. Nice B+W heifer, decent sized calf for a heifers calf but still calved very quick and easy.

Might try some Holmeden Provident.

Got some Tregibby Gibson heifers (oldest one approaching breeding age). Good calves, hellishly long in the body and the udder, like dear old Mum. emoticon

A few Lucky Charms about too, oldest ones bulling age with more pregs on the way. Tidy enough heifers, a bit stronger than the Shottles by the look of it. Early days yet, of course.

A bit of Provident in the tank too.

Re: GB Bulls Open Day

Had a really good day, weather was excellent and about 50 people at each of the three farms.

Most of the bulls on display don't qualify for export, so i am not plugging anything for my benefit, honest.

Saw over 20 Knowlesmere Papoose Integrity daughters at Bidlea. Tidy, correct heifers, not overly milky or extreme. However the second and third calvers on show really highlighted their improvement, with beautiful stylish cows, with plenty of frame ann strength. A bull to leave 81-83 point heifers, and long lasting cows.

Styche Supersonic was a different sort. They were a bit stale, apart from two, which looked very well. He looks to be a power and strength bull. His dam looks tremendous at 14 years old, and seems to be transmitting her power. I would watch for bone quality, as you would expect from that much power. Also whilst the rear udders are really wide, I would have liked to see them a bit higher.

Lucky Charm daughters were at a third farm, and probably from dams that weren't as good as the previous herds. However they were really good, medium sized, with good legs and deep rib. Some of the visitors had seen them as heifers, and were really impressed with their improevement into second lactation. He was probably the milkiest of the three that we saw, and he marks his daughters just like his full brother.

On Wednesday I went to see some Tregibby Gibson daughters in Wales, as well as Dalesend Storm Maude.

I do sell this bull, so take whatever you want from the rest of this.

This bull looks really promising. The first daughter was a second calver, scored VG88, with just a tremendous udder. She probably wasn't quite big enough to show, but otherwise a super young cow. Highest yielding heifer in the herd last year, with great depth of body and lovely legs.

We saw several more, and they all had great udders. High and wide, with great ligament and teat placement. His young stock look beautiful and if they all come with these udders, he is going to do a great job.

Maude herself is calved since March, completed 102 tonnes and is heading to the Royal Welsh Show along with the TG Linda heifer that won there last year.

These are just my perspective, and not everyone who was there will agree, but I found the entire exercise very worthwhile.

I have some pictures that i have taken, but can't get them to post at this stage, will try to work it out.

If this should be in the commercial section, can someone who knows how to, shift it please.

Well done Alan, had been wondering how it had gone, would have loved to have got there, but to be honest clean forgot about it.

It's always interesting to have a progress report on how things are working out in people's herds

Re: GB Bulls Open Day

Just heard from GB Bulls that the first TG daughter I saw went VG89 with her second calf this week, as did TG Linda.
