Re: Aerosol Hair Spray for Animals in Canada
I am sure that a few of us American show enthusiasts would be willing to help get some across the border for you.

I'm not overly concerned yet. It was still on display at the farm mech show a few weeks ago
It's being withdrawn because it contains a carcinogenic substance, but you're not worried because you know where you can still get some? Amazing.

Re: Aerosol Hair Spray for Animals in Canada
I work with a lot of stuff that can potentially cause carcinogens. I just won't be shooting clear magic up my nose any more.

Re: Aerosol Hair Spray for Animals in Canada
Why not start a poll.
Do you :-
A) Continue to fill the air around your cow with an aerosol that 'contains methylene chloride, which is prohibited in cosmetic products in aerosol containers. Methylene chloride is a potential carcinogen to animals and humans, poses an inhalation hazard, and can convert in the blood to carbon monoxide' because the cow looks pretty when she sparkles and anyway nothing bad will happen.
or
B) Learn to appreciate the cow without the sparkles.

Or we could start a poll
A : Do we keep using tractors just because they make farming easyer
or
B : Go back to our cave, hit our women, and live as hunters.
Why dont we try to reduce all kinds of pollution, insted of trying too ban the things we personally dont use/like.
Remember our high producing cows are one of the biggest methan polluters.
Here in Denmark, there has been talks about putting a tax on every cow (100€/cow/year), because of that.

Re: Aerosol Hair Spray for Animals in Canada
How about C. Don't spray clear or black magic around their face so that the cow has a decreased chance of inhaling. This reminds me to tell the guys doing the fitting not to smoke around the cows either. Second hand smoke can be deadly.

Re: Aerosol Hair Spray for Animals in Canada
This probably isn't a new discovery.
Therefore, the burden surely is on the makers of the aerosol to remove the carcinogen from the product and find a suitable alternative, thus avoiding a ban on its product.
It shouldn't be a big deal, should it? I would think people like L'Oreal and Garnier have already done the hard work finding the alternative.

Having said that, surely if the spray contains chemicals that can cause cancer it is safer for all those involved if they are not used.
Just like smoking or eating grilled meat, both are known to cause cancer.

I've seen guys using foam in the top line to make the hair stand at attention.

Aerosol Hair Spray for Animals in Canada
There has been one incident in Canada with a child that was standing near where a cow was getting prepared to go into the ring and clear and black magic was sprayed and the kid inhaled some and he had a heart attack and died.

Aerosol Hair Spray for Animals in Canada
i dont think anybody really knows why it happened but they dont want to take anymore chances as it could lead to a bad rep for the dairy industry and lead to lawsuits so i think thats why they banned it. And also because there are carcinogens in it that cause cancer.

Re: Aerosol Hair Spray for Animals in Canada
Interesting article, thanks.
Seems that they haven't pinned very much on it at this stage, other than neurological toxicity at higher exposure rates. Still, the question is, would it be a substance I'd like to be forced to breathe in a poorly ventilated building (e.g. a show shed) as a spectator, or as the next door show hand?
Probably not.
Bit like smoking in confined spaces. Its not fair to do it where the wind can't take it away from other people.
