DNA Dilema

Lately I have been trying to registar animals that are the result of imported Us embryos or by imported semen from the US.
It annoys me greatly to see genomic type proofs from unproven young sires when I cant even find out where blood samples are kept from long dead donor cows so I can acess (at my cost) dna to verify their progeny. It appears cow owners sent blood samples to holstein usa who then sent them a sticker to put on the registration certificate that says blood sampled. In this country we get a certificate for each animal from the lab which has the blood type file number (sample frozen) as well as blood types for sire and dam.
We even have the interesting case where one bull "Wilonna delivery"has no known DNA or bloodtype according to what holstein usa told HFAA yet the owner swears that he took sample.Lucky for me I still have semen in the tank and am able to send a straw to the lab to get DNA.
It appears that in our modernizing process tha fact that there is still "old genetics" in use has escaped holstein usa and the system (all frozen bloods)were never updated to DNA leaving a huge gao in knowledge.

Lucky for me I will be able to do a comparative DNA to the dam using 2 lots of hair samples,3 lots of frozen bloods and 2 lots of semen from 8 offspring to be able to registar 2 of them...........
what a circus.

I just want to alert people to the fact that even tho correct protocol has been followed in the past there is now (still)"genetics" around that is now going to be very difficult annd probably costly to parentage verify because of a unaccountable decision by someone somewhere to jump from bloodtyping to DNAing without updating all previous bloodtyped animals.Fortunately for us Queensland university have kept all their bloods received frozen and we can thus access older australian et animals DNA but not so the the rest of the world.Im currently tracking down (and in the future will be requesting) hair samples from any live animals that we got embryos in the tank from.
It is also interesting that you can registar any animal by any sire or dam without verification ( bar the random 1 in 1000 testing) BUT when it comes to et despite the et vet (licenced and registered) signing off that embryo A in straw 1 from cow bertha and the USDA vet (also licenced and reg) signes off that straw 1 containg embryo A from cow bertha went into tank B to australia where the australian quarentine inspection service verifies that yes straw 1 with embryo A from cow bertha is in the tank and then the licenced australian et vet signs off that yes straw one with embryo A from bertha went into recipient 795 one has to endure such a circus when it would be a simple exercise to dna the calf and its recipient mother who should be unrelated.
