Genomic... AI STUDS programs from HI 11/09

ABS
2009 400 bulls 120 dtrs/each
2010 425 bulls 120 dtrs/each

ACCELERATED
2009 120 bulls 100 dtrs/each
2010 120 bulls 100 dtrs/each

on a similar line... Select Sires and Semex. This is the approach I ilke the most.

Others A.I. Studs instead:

from 300 to 200 and maybe 150 young bulls... great impact from genomic.

How can we trust people that do not look at cows and bulls anymore? Aren't those Genomic Numbers out of Real Numbers? I understand genomic is a great thing, but are you sure you can compare genomic with a bull with 10k dtrs world wide?

Here are some papers that were presented in Canada, quite some about genomics (results, expectations, accuracy): http://www.cdn.ca/Articles/GEBOCT2009/Industry%20Session%20Agenda%20-%20October%202009.pdf

I use genomic, so I hope you don't misunderstand what I would like to say.

It looks like genomic will give a %rel close to 60% or we can say, a Bull with...how many dtrs? 10-20?

This is what we currently pay for semen:
0 €/dose PA Bulls
10 €/dose 92% Rel Bulls RK99

How much should i pay for a 60% GPA Bull? Around 6 €/dose?

Are there any influential countries in the Holstein world that are not working on genomics? Definitely France, Germany, USA, Canada, Scandinavia (Viking Genetics), New Zealand and The Netherlands. Can`t speak for the UK tough, but I don`t think that any country can bear the risk not to get involved in genomics.

Ireland is using genomics to select all young sires, also testin bull dams and some stock bulls too.

Re: Genomic... AI STUDS programs from HI 11/09

In reality Posal, they still will not be able to sell a bull with a 74 point dam regardless of genomics. So as long as the classifiers do a good job i wouldn't be worried about them not looking at the animals.

The reliabilities of genomics is still about 1/2 way between a unproven and proven bull. (although I do know the reliabilities for Jerseys are higher due to the higher inbreeding %)

Genomic bulls should be treated as still unproven, but you can maybe play a little more with a few on good cows. NOT go nuts on the next hot thing (attwood anyone?)

I think we still have to be careful that the higher genomic bulls get a well spread proof in that their daughters are out of a range of cows, not just the better cows.

Brings the question of, should there be a waiting period on a young sires G proof being released? So they are still tested equally, then after he has enough distribution for his initial proof he can be released as a high genomic proof bull.....

Btw We are releasing our country specific Genomics next April.

The Swiss firstly started with Brown Swiss Data. I suppose they are also working with Holsteins now.
