Re: Previous poll results

Addison and Linjet are not at all the same so I don't see how it would be possible to fall in love with both. I like Linjet, but voted Dutch Destroyer for Addison.

Re: Previous poll results

I forgot to vote on this poll but prob would have plumped for Outside.
However the thing that struck me about this result was despite all the talk about Durhams temperament problems it still hasn't put the majority off him!!! I for 1 don't like being kicked by cows but do others not mind???

A good cow is still a good cow, and Durham makes some really nice ones. I agree that they can be a little goofy, but I wouldn't trade our group of young Durhams for anything else. Also, ours aren't really kickers, just tend to be flighty. I worry more about them injuring themselves than anything else. Our best cow is very head strong and can be a real challenge to show as a result, but that doesn't mean she isn't a good cow. I think right now when you talk about the best bulls it is Durham and then everyone else. I don't think anything comes close to him right now.

Re: Previous poll results

Howie is right they aren't kickers as much as PITA. Mine like to run through the parlor trying to get by before the front gate shuts. He is also correct about you worrying more about them hurting themselves. I lost 1 because she was running in the barn when I was sorting out another cow and she slipped and split out. If she hadn't been running it would not have happened. They must be restrained in a headlock before they can be bred or worked with in anyway.

I also would not trade mine even with the attitude problems for another group of cattle.

Whether its type or index the bottom line is that all must milk.

Re: Previous poll results

Have they been a bit daft since they were calves, or just now that they are milking. The reason I ask is that we now have quite a few calves from the durham son that we were using and they seem to be nice natured calves, maybe they've not gone mad just yet! :look

Re: Previous poll results

Mark, on the new poll it looks to me as if anyone who votes no is automatically still clocking a 50 tonne lifetime yield.

4 No
4 Yes
8 yield totals, 4 of which are 50 tonnes
