Tesco In or Out
Its stared already I know of one producer on the outskirts of Glasgow with great cows very good milk quality and a very tidy farm where things Are done right. If he cat get in then the standard for the rest must be very high. I still think Tesco are at it and this is about headline grabing and keeping the OFT/CC off their backs,I also think that the way that the price is heading Tesco knew that the market price would pass their 22p by the winter. As producers we have a great chance for the first time since deregulation to sort a lot of problems, although we have to work with supermarkets we dont work for them!

Re: Tesco In or Out
Cowboy,
Who's ass are you kissing? Hmmm near Bearsden?
Anyway, he's outwith the catchment zone for Bellshill.Yes, it's a postcode lottery, if your in the area AND quailfy, then you've allready had your letter.
".....Tesco knew that the market price would pass their 22p by the winter"
There will be a price review in October, lets wait and see what happens before jumping to too many conclusions.
"......although we have to work with supermarkets we dont work for them! "
Well what have we been doing for the last 10 years or so???
Maby if we did work for tesco, we'd get at least the minimum wage!?!?

Re: Tesco In or Out
I am kissing nobodys ass, butif I was at Boclair and heard that there were producers at Kelso getting in then I would want to kick ASS hard!!!! If your quality is close to Davids and standards are half as good then I have no problem with you or anyone else getting in but is it even a post code lottery .

Re: Tesco In or Out
If your less than 15 miles from Bellshill and Kelso is at least 70 miles away how can Kelso be in the catchment zone and Bearsden be outside, and if its about qualifing i dont know how if Boclair dont qualify then how did the rest of you get in????. is this the way forward for the industry? Its going to turn one producer against another just like deregulation only worse because there going to be from the same producer group.

…
Not going to dispute youe geography and how them that are in are in but surely they are trying to divide us AGAIN for the simple reason that they saw us returning to a position of strength through desperation and a shortage of milk but before that happens they chose to divide us again.
We are with Sainsburys and i am disappointed that none of them to my knowledge are branding or marketing this nilk any different and pushing liquid milk in to value added that way 22p or whatever may only be the start as well as increasing demand .

Tesco In or Out
I also keep hearing that they may expect you to have milk up to standard every day but only need "tesco" milk a few days a month so i have heard of benefits being a grand total of £51 a month . We are with sinsburys and i equally sceptical they want to talk about every aspect of our business but milk price last questionaire wanted to know how many children we have and will they take over the business, if they that worried about the future pay us more.

Tesco In or Out
Have also heard that they have struck a deal with Genus to take bull calves away on a scheme to be fattened. Only if by a genus bull though.........If true, they're now just short of telling you which bulls to use.

…Teso Suppliers
With the cost of inputs riseing very sharply what price are you producers going to get in the spring. Was at an NFUs milk committee meeting today and the talk was any producer not on fixed price for cake or blends and no fert bought will not cover the cost of production this spring !!.
Just wondered how the cost of production figures affect your price and when is it set?

…Tesco Price
Are you Tesco producers happy with the price increase of 0.5ppl.?
Are you happy with the need to sign up to Promar doing your costings?or loose money!!
Are you happy that your elected representatives have got you a good deal?
Is the tracking system working on cost of production against the price,is it transparent?
I know I am asking a lot of questions for a co-op member but it seems that the Tesco price is the benchmark for us all now and I wonder if these representatives really are up to the task!!!!
As they have an influence on all our prices can somebody tell me who they are when they were elected and for how long??

Are YOU happy with YOUR First milk price? Are the Arla guys happy with there price? Is anyone happy with there milk price? Probably not, but 0.5p of a rise, going into peake milk production, guaranteed till October is a hell-of-a-lot-better than any drop in price. You should worry more about your co-op price than what Tesco pays it's producers.......
Are you happy with the need to sign up to Promar doing your costings?or loose money!!
As you are ignorant to how the "cost tracker" works, I can see why you ask. Yes I'm happy to do it, as they will pay for it in the bigger picture. Would you do it for 28p?
Are you happy that your elected representatives have got you a good deal?
You realy need to worry more about your own price........sorry if they havent offered you a contract, get over it.
Is the tracking system working on cost of production against the price,is it transparent?
Are you saying the "tracking system" is a bad idea? Would you not like the same kind of mecanisim in place for First milk? Do you not understand that milk price is driven by supply and demand like any other commodiy market? If you dont like it, and I'll include myself here, GET OUT OF MILK PRODUCTION, the void you leave will only tighten supply and drive up demand. People who whine and moan like Cowgirl get up my nose, earth calling cowgirl, the board is dead, it will never come back to hold your hand, if you live out in the sticks, away from the population, expect to miss-out on the "better" contracts.
I know I am asking a lot of questions for a co-op member but it seems that the Tesco price is the benchmark for us all now and I wonder if these representatives really are up to the task!!!!
Are your's? How many of the men who set-up First milk are still milking cows for a living? The only tool primary producers have for increasing there price is demand for there product, milk is only worth as little as the next man in the chain can get away with paying same for any primary producer of any product.
As they have an influence on all our prices can somebody tell me who they are when they were elected and for how long??
No, you worry about First milk. When you sign a Tesco contract, ask them.......
Sandy, you seem to have more of a problem with Tesco than most, why? If Tesco were to offer the Pirie family a contract, would you turn it down flat? Would you sign? Or would you do like the rest of us, sit down, read through the offer, decide if it's right for you, then decide. If the Tesco job goes pear shaped, you can always resign.....

Why so much Aggression James?
I wouldent call it aggression, was just trying to highlight my text. If there was any "needle" to it, it probaly stems from Mr Pirie's Pm, "......smart ass you may live in a rough area near cumbernauld but dont drag this good fourm into the gutter......" kinda sets the tone......
That and the fact I'm sick fed up of the constant negativity generated by so many dairy farmers, "The end is neer" "Woe betide" They never see the glass as half full, just half empty!!!
