Can someone explain to me how selling milk on a direct supply contract to a dairy who dictate price and conditions with no meaningful negotiations demonstates independance of mind?
Seems like you have taken my point on independance out of context. I sell within a cooperative and think that I am right to do so ! My point about independance was that we all run our own independant businesses and do it cos we want to.Some people think they should sell independantly as well. NOT ME !. My answer is to have independance and use collective selling to stand up to the multiples! Like it or not farmers are independant by nature .They run independant businesses ! Problem is that not every farmer thinks like me and you will always get somebody who wants a penny more . We have been here before and the processors just lap it up . Divide and conquer . It works every time !

Re: Tesco In or Out
I was reading last night how Fonterra has 11,000 co-op members, producing 14bill litres.
Thats more milk than the UK, from 8,000 less farmers, and they are all on the same side.

Maybe some of you Tesco boys could tell us if Tesco have any plans to set up a dedicated supply group for Tesco cheese suppliers?
After all if Tesco want cheese in the future they will need to do something to secure supplies now by having a sustainable price for milk going into cheese, because it costs the same to produce a litre for cheese as it does for liquid.Maybe Tesco would rather keep supporting the Irish dairy farmers so they can undermine the whole UK market and increase their profits even further next year

Re: Tesco In or Out
The Irish imports would be even cheaper were it not for the weak pound.
