Tesco In or Out

Is it true that some of the Tesco producers in Scotland are now shooting their calves as the Tesco calf scheme has not got off the ground ?

It is true that some of the other producers all over the UK are shooting their calves as they are no worth anything, for export or otherwise! emoticon

Why is it Tesco's fault if there is no market for an inferior beef animal?

Re: …

Tesco ....! Divide and conquer !!
Could somebody please explain to me why David Reid, chairman of Tesco, is about to be elected president of the Royal Highland Agricultural Society of Scotland . The letter from Tom Douglas in the Scottish Farmer magazine this week says it all ! "...The accusations against Tesco of price fixing, land banking, tax avoidance, council bullying, restrictive practice in the high street, mislabelling of (country of origin) produce, unfair trading and (supplier) bullying...".
Someone obviously thinks he is the perfect man for the job !

Tesco/Promar costings

If all Tesco producers were to agree to let Promar do their costings,I wonder if Tesco would show what their costings are for processing and delivery, handling and fridge costs and show what if any margin they are left with, it probably wouldnt even need consultants to work it out.
Sounds fair to me what do you Tesco boys think?

Tesco slogan says "Every litle helps" perhaps they should remember that when it comes to tescos calf scheme ,are all you producers being paid for your calves because the men who buy them have not been paid yet typical supermarket working on someone elses money, you producers with Tesco should put pressure on Mr Guilpain to pay up!!!If he turns a deaf ear try your elected representatives!!!!! emoticon emoticon

I have said it on here before, this Tesco dedicated supply was all about control, over processors and producers and the milk price in general, so its no surprise that their producers dont come on here and give us an insight of their own opinion,Redrobin may be right they have all been GAGGED!!!!

Re: Tesco In or Out

As we are only a Tesco seasonal, heard nowt.
Off course,we agree its about control and as we have told the farm sevices local if Wiseman had the "guts" and they thought it warranted it,(to keep the supply)the RWD base price should be raised above the Tesco price.
But,Tesco are a very big company to play games with..

Farmer friend I stayed with last week was on a Tesco seasonal. I had a loan of his internet a couple of times and through Cowtalk and Potters website I knew more about what was going on than he did.

Tesco producers, is it true that you are being asked to provide your personal drawings and bank intrest charges as has been quoted by Farmers for Action.
Are you all frightened of Tesco to reply on this fourm, because the only one easy to identify is James Johnston, some of you can at least say if you have been told to stay off cowtalk/Dairy politics.
  The silence is worrying. emoticon

"Are you all frightened of Tesco to reply on this fourm, because the only one easy to identify is James Johnston, some of you can at least say if you have been told to stay off cowtalk/Dairy politics."

Personaly, I've just had too much on my plate with the weather and "other" problems to be bothered to answer you. So.......... No, I cant speak for anyone else but me, but Tesco have NOT told to stay off cowtalk/Dairy politics, and NO I dont think annyone is "frightened" to speak out against Tesco.

There are people who dont want to discuss their milk contracts, or any other aspect of their buissness on an open forum for all the world to see..........belive it of not.........why should they???

Why are you coyboy, so worried about Tesco contracts?

James:- good to know you have not been gagged, there are people who discuss most things about their business on cowtalk, whats in the contract that you dont want to talk about?
If there is something I am not happy about with First Milk I dont hold back, and Tesco suppliers surely should be free to discuss there contract or criticise Tesco without fear of reprisal.
I am not worried about the Tesco contract, but Tesco's latest stunt followed by Asda's response has put the brakes on a much needed increase that every producer needs, you talked about the weather most producers in Scotland, N Ireland and the north west of England will be on half or more winter rations because of the weather ,that does not pay in August even on a Tesco contract,I am Pi...d off at Tesco and think many of your fellow Tesco producers will feel the same but are afraid to say so.

Re: Tesco In or Out

I too supply RWD on a tesco seasonal contract and feel no reason to voice any concerns with tesco via cowtalk. At the end of the day what benefit is there going to be by discussing milk supply contracts on cowtalk?

Re: Tesco In or Out

I would say Tesco suppliers ARE free to "discuss there contract or criticise Tesco without fear of reprisal", but as hamish has pointed out, I dont see the benifit of discussing my contract on cowtalk!??!

There's nothing in the contract that I "dont want to talk about" I just dont discuss all my buisness on a open public forum.

My take on "Tesco's latest stunt followed by Asda's response" is this, Tesco responded to ASDA dropping the price of their milk, ASDA were responding to the Middle ground, i.e. Liddle/Aldi/ect selling milk at cost to get customers through the door, one of the first to sell milk as a lost leader(this time) was Iceland who were advertiseing hard on "cheap milk" to get customers through the door, and it was working for them. That's the retail buissness, cut throat, problem is we get our throat cut too often...........

At the end of the day the goverment want cheap food to hold down inflation, they wont be sending the any help in the form of regulating "lost leaders" if they can help it, and we are back to the same old supply and demand lead market thet we always have been in.

Your pickled off at Tesco??? You'd be as well to be pickled off with the whole milk industry, all the buyers who dont want to pay any more than their competitors do for milk, pickled off at fellow producers for competing against you for the right to produce milk at a profitable margin, pickled off at the housewifes who go to another shop to buy milk because it's 10p.p.l cheaper there that were they normaly buy it, pickled off at the goverment for it's "cheap food" to hold down inflation at any cost attatude, pickled off at the weather and pickled off at being pickled off!!!

Tesco In or Out

Ian Potter is publicising an attempt by producers to buy up a substantial amount of this milk at 25ppl and sell it back to Tesco at 28.75ppl:

Interesting to see how Tesco react. If the initiative takes off I can not see them taking it lying down.

Been on the tesco.com website. It now costs £1.06(or 53ppl) for two litres of wiseman fresh n lo. Perhaps the deal is only on in tesco stores and not online as free delivery of 25ppl milk seemed to good to be true?

I suspect Tesco took it down as soon as they realised there was an orchestrated campaign. Wouldn't take many orders of 99 to make them realise there were irregular buying patterns. Does anyone know if the offer is still on in store ?

Re: Tesco In or Out

I was led to believe it was a short term promotion, so was due to come to an end anyway.

I fail to see why everyone is getting their knickers in a knot over this one. Maybe it is merely a short term deal to get people to try a new product/brand, to take more, or even just to get feet through the door to buy other, more expensive, products on their way to the milk.

Is a all wine devalued every time Tesco run a half price promotion on a particular brand?
