Bargain Cheese
The large retailers can and do put pressure on suppliers to give them bargain deals, bogofs etc to make the punters keep coming. These are as I understand it funded by the suppliers.
So , in a time of rising dairy prices and apparent shortage of cheese how have dairy crest(I think) allowed themselves to be bullied by tesco into half price davidstow mature cheddar?
For those who like good cheese the offer was on (29/07)davidstow mature 500g packs was £3.75 now half price so 1 kg for £3.75 AND it is a really good strong mature, not poor quality to clear.

Re: Bargain Cheese
Asda and First Milk have just announced a £400/ton increase in cheese as a market correction, I think it has more to do with First Milk announcing Force Majeure on milk supplies in August, hopefully this will now see more milk going to those who pay the highest prices.

Re: Bargain Cheese
Yes it`s hard to understand what is going on.
We had some half price Cathedral City stuff lately and very tasty it was too.
Our local store is still selling Scottish butter 250g packets at 69 p .
Did have Anchor jacked up to 92p a month back - now on offer - two for £1.45 .
Lurpak still at the £1.08 its been all summer . Lordy. ( Yes 108 p for 250g)
Own brand Cheshire , Double Gloucester and Red Leicester 250g packs - edible OK and two for £2.50 ie 5 squid a kilo.
So no hike as yet.
Ah but the Pilgrim`s Choice extra mature has gone above £10 a kilo.
