biggest coop in oz has just made everyones xmas by adjusting the projected milk price downwards from feb 1 2009 which equates to a 13% lower than opening price.stepups will only be paid on milk produced between feb and june 09.
We had heard that MG was going to open lower in july 09 but expected that they would hold current prices.THis of course places downward pressure on the other companies to conform.
Whilest MG suppliers dont appear to have a contracted price they nether the less have a budgeted forecast price and with the drought many had (as we all do!) budgeted and spent/borrowed to buy feed and water for cows to produce milk.Last week our nutritionist had told us that he had MG suppliers on the books who were only having $2/cow/per day left after they had paid for the feedcosts. This is going to place enormus pressure on farmers lives - one lady rang up the country hour talkback line in response to the news and said "that's it we're finished. we're done .it's over.
Looks like the next major exodus of the dairy industry is about to happen.

That doesn't seem much for jumping through Tesco's hoops. Our Nov cheque was for 28.4p from a liquid DC contract, that was after a 0.5ppl deduction for scc.

Sorry FOAF.

Believe me,we jump through no hoops for anyone!Tesco Seasonal remember.
No export calves only stipulation.
Never have exported any anyway.
Only about a third of the month`s production to Tesco.
They sent a nasty little letter advising as we do not require to sign up to Promar costings they were deducting the Promar 0.5p as of November milk.Just around the same time Farmers Weekly running the articles about how Tesco were screwing down vegtable producers etc.
The 0.5p deduction was another cost cutting excercise.

Re: International milk price comparison

Our price is expected to drop into the $15/cwt range come spring, and into summer. The reasoning is overproduction (1.5% over). More or less, the add more cows on, over produce strikes again. If only people would UNDER produce by 2-3%, so demand outweighed production. We would see better prices. Back when it hit about $24.00/cwt, there was more deman that supply.. Ah yes, that was nice, and it was only a year ago.

Re: International milk price comparison

Our co-op has informed us of a 34% price drop as of 1 Feb, this takes premium quality milk to about 29cents per litre. Works out to around 14ppl or 19 cents us. Eu putting subsidies back in place won't help us much either. Don't know what the future holds.
