Has Dairy Farmers of Britain got a viable future? Discuss !

Over the last number of weeks, there has been numerous things come out of DFOB, not paying the members interest, to the resignation of David Potts, it's commercial director.
Can DFOB survive ?
Would it's members be better off with another co-op ?

I wondered when this topic would rear its head! I supply DFB but at the moment the claims made by certain people in the UK industry are being completely rejected by DFB itself, and I do not know what to think. I will just have to sit tight and wait to see what happens.

If the members of dfob were absorbed by the other two, for the sake of argument, would the OFT approve?

,

I have got the impression from various people that it would not be an issue. One DFB employee told a local member meeting earlier this year that in his opinion DFB would not exist in its present form in 18 months, but would not elaborate any further.

I have been told that Wisemans had a look at their liquid side saw the books and have walked away,it is possible that the Co-op might buy back the liquid side.
First Milk could do with milk volume for Aspatria !!
But he big question is what do the DFoB members want do they want to join another co op or become directs? And what will their bankers let DFoB do?

In the present climate I think that everyone could do with DFB's milk supply.

Be lucky to survive for anywhere near that time after a backdated 2ppl cut for November.

Membership of 2,600 claimed.

Volume I don`t know but even at 600,000 litres each that would be 1,500 million plus ,or more than 10% of UK production.

Maybe 12% of GB ?

I see that First Milk has launched a no capital contribution, three month notice recruitment drive in many of the areas where there are DFB producers. This could be a real problem for DFB as their producers are so disillusiones and disaffected at present. The loss of a large litreage (and hence turnover) could be DFb's death knell.

And Meadow Foods have just joined the feeding frenzy too.

Apparently DFB had over a third of their members with notice given BEFORE the 2ppl cut.

I knew that a substantial number of DFB members would be under notice but that is the first time I have heard a figure mentioned. I do not know what would be the earliest date these members could leave DFB. We have not even mentioned the substantial investments that members have made in the business, and looking forward that is my biggest concern.
