The interesting thing is that there may be two sides to this coin.
One - United has lost a number of larger producers - the paper reported last week that strathroy got 10 farmers on 1st april totallying 22million litres. They were the cost effective collections. Is united going to be left with all the small loads?
Two - The milk that United is losing now, it may never miss the lack of, considering that it has to put it out to auction and take a bad price for it. Perhaps this is why United is staying fairly quiet, and letting those who want to leave, go?

Our tanker driver was complaining about a producer the other day who was supplying 20-30 litres on alternate day collection. He thought he must be milking half a cow. Considering the minimum collection charge the farmer musn't be very good at sums.
Anyway would fragmented milk pools not be more of a higher transport cost factor than smallish producers anyway. You could have 2 very large producers 30 miles away and both 3/4 fill the lorry. Or 5 producers all within 10 miles with good access filling the tanker to within 100 litres of capacity.

I think there are more than a dozen collections on our load, despite the fact that we usually 1/3 fill the lorry. I'm pretty sure that about six miles maximum would cover the distance (as the crow flies) from one end of the run to the other. I'd suggest you could fill most united lorries within ten miles, and it will be much cheaper to do it with two three or four farms.

As litres leave United so the companies running costs will be spread over a smaller number of litres , will this be significant for United suppliers?
Will M, would the reduction in producers on the voting list not also be caused by retirments and men changing thier business policies?

United costs will be spread over a smaller number of litres for sure e.g. head office, transport etc. However, Dale Farm perhaps will not be affected as it would presumably still handle the same quantity of milk.

Leaving United?
If enough leave and Dale Farm continues expansion would there be a possibility that United suppliers would become direct suppliers to Dale Farm?
