Re: Leaving United?

Dad was on the Glanbia stand at the Clogher Valley Show on Wed past (29/07/09) APPARENTLY United have been in contact with Glanbia to ask them to stop 'stealing' their producers!! I have yet to hear of Glanbia approaching a United producer!!

BTW, was anyone else able to find the United stand at CVS this year?

Re: Leaving United?

It will be interesting to see how our friend in Ballymoney gets on with his written request for a Special General Meeting with Dr D, H.H. & Co. It will look very bad on United's part if they don't soon publically respond.

Re: Leaving United?

I don't believe a public responce is the correct way forward. This is a matter for UDF. I also question the need for a SGM only a month or two before the AGM, although it may be useful to 'clear the air' and inform members on changing markets, latest developments & what Dr D, H.H. & Co. are doing to earn their pay.

Re: Leaving United?

So.... are any other United members getting text messages from United urging members to vote AGAINST the resolutions at the SGM?

Their actions would almost make me vote FOR the resolutions!!

Re: Leaving United?

I don't remember getting a text message to that effect. Just one with a phone number if any member has questions regarding the board's stand on the resolutions.

The supplementary leaflet with the proxy form set out why the board is against the resolutions.

I haven't heard of any actions that are not above board.

Re: Leaving United?

To be fair, I think we have been pretty much neck and neck with the other NI companies this spring/summer, when we traditionally have a lower price than them. Of course, the difference in fat, protein and quality bases always puts us half a penny behind to begin with.

I didn't hear the radio comment (never get a chance!) but I would guess that he was only putting out a bit of positive propaganda. Certain groups like FFA seem to have it in for United. Little do they think what kind of a hole we would all be in if United fell.

There has been plenty of bad press put out this year against United, some of it (rather embarrassingly) had to be retracted and apologies printed as a result of unfounded claims.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get to the SGM. Fortunately, though, the membership defeated the, perhaps well-intentioned, but ill-conceived resolution by more than twenty to one.

Re: Leaving United?

Tradionally when milk prices are improving, the mood of the meeting turns a little off as members vent their anger on what they/we have just been through. A couple of good auctions in NZ and at home will certainly help DR D & Co.

Re: Leaving United?

When is/was the AGM? Was it last night? If it was last night I wouldn't have been in any case, there was a Harry Ferguson evening in the Armagh City Hotel run by Faith Mission, I ended up with a bad back (laying paving slabs last Saturday!) so couldn't leave the house!!

I'm just curious to know what the mood was?
