For the Yankees
Is there any truth to this? This headline was posted on the Dairy Farmers of Ontario website.
The National Milk Producers Federation is forming a strategic task force to look at ways to deal with the over supply of milk and low farm milk prices. The group will look at ideas to control the market, such as changes to the Cooperatives Working Together program and possibly some type of supply management program.

For the Yankees
there is truth...a CWT just got excepted with 100,000 cows to be sent for slaughter the next 30days. Herds from the size of 50-5000 were picked. The last CWT allowed farmers to have their dairy herd bought out but then start milking fresh hiefers or buy in cows the next day. I think this latest CWT will have a waiting period of a certain number of years before someone can start farming again.
There have been meetings about a supply management program similar to a quota system. But nothing definite has been set in place. We are still in the very beginning stages, but now spring work has started and farmers have shifted focus away from a solution to low milk price to trying to cut expenses and get crops in the ground. Hopefully these discussions will continue and not forgotten. A solution to avoid such a decrease in milk price is a must. Average farm is losing $100 per cow per month at the current milk price. The break even point seems to be farther and farther away each month. Not sure how long a lot of us can hold on.
