Arla

Could any of the UK Arla suppliers please tell me if Arla are picking up milk every day, or every other with an extra cost if you need every day pick-up? I haven't checked it out properly, but a rumour said every day.

With Milklink we are currently every day and paying for the extra pick-up, and are looking at whether an every day contract might be more effective than increasing capacity.

(In principal I don't like the idea of going to Arla, but business is business)

Re: Arla

Arla pick up every day if needed. No extra cost.Biggest problem will be in getting a contract. Believe they are not recruiting in most areas.Sympathise with your dilemma.Faced the same problem myself. In the end the better lifestyle for my wife and kids won.
regards Jim

Not seen that advert round here but next door are none too happy they supply DFoB but Arla pick their milk up along with the next farm down the lane who are Arla suppliers , outcome is simailar milk going in same tanker to same end product but 2ppl difference in the price recieved between each farm.

Re: …

Its not that i have anything against the Danes but surely we promote our own home produced product first and foremost.
2pence is a big difference these days.

2ppl, the difference is narrowing! A couple of years ago, a neighbour of ours was selling similar milk to us to one of the co-ops at 3.1ppl less than us. I'm all for the co-op principal but we just can't afford the £80K a year it would have cost us.

Re: …

A cheerful newsletter from Jonathan Ovens as usual this month:

"it must be admitted that, going into 2007,absolute evidence of,real sustainable improvement for the industry is still hard to uncover"
Mr Ovens points to the office of fair trading in a pre-emptive excuse for the lack of any rise in milk price in the near future.

At the same time the newsletter has features on Arla's "good second half" of the financial year the success of Cravendale milk and the Christmas cream market.

We were told at our local meetings what a great job Mr Ovens is doing behind the scenes but his continued negative attitude is only going to cause resentment and dissalusionment amonst arla producers.

When we shopped around earlier in the year, we couldn't get a deal that gave us even 1ppl over our Milklink price.

Re: …

Aha,a new section!
On the Arla topic, one farmer i know who is with Sorn Milk says that since the Sorn Milk/Arla tie-up he reckons his price is not much better than First Milk. Before the tie-up his monthly milk price was "as good as" ours(Our tanker is like a black & white cow on wheels)."As good as"...Is anyone anywhere (worldwide) happy with their milk price currently??
We reckoned we would have been £60k annually worse off staying with co-op."Faither" says we would have been outta cows/milk years ago

Try being forced onto every third day collection, seems no matter where you go or who you supply one could be as bad as the other!
