First Milk punt on DairyCrest - your view?
This is just what I was afraid would happen.Instead of the capital levy ending on 31/3/2007 we will have it for another two full years beyond that.
Apparantly this deal is to be but one step in a series , so perhaps the levy will continue in perpetuity.

Another nail in the coffin is my view.
Not of First Milk itself but a whole ruck of their suppliers.
Would Dairy Crest sell it if it was a good investment?

Hmmm . Yes.
Dairy crest is selling a sector of its business that last year made £3.4 million from a turnover of £194 million.
You would have to hope that that was a poor year , because a 1.75% margin doesn`t look robust enough to me.

Agreed but I think that was probably a good year and I'm told the actual value was probably half the selling price.
I agree with co-ops but after supplying 4 I know it doesn't work here.
Parasites like Roger Evans and co couldn't run the preverbial p##s up in a brewery.

The problem is what would first milk have done if dairy crest had just shut the plants down. They would have had loads of milk with no where to go. Most of what the coops have bought have been forced sales. The processing they want is to expensive to buy.
What is for certain is the dairy industry is a real mess. Rumours are that an existing company is about to start sourcing milk direct!
Roger Evans is obviously a good paresite as he has made a living for many years without killing the host!!

The levy would be no problem if you were to get a decent milk price and a good interest rate on your investment account. I can't see it happening for a few years

I think the dairy farmers who have left the industry have been fairly well distributed amongst the various milk buyers. Ovens etc have killed as many suppliers!
We have too many "paresites" because we are spread between too many buyers.
Anyway why should I care since we have left the dairy industry.

I was at the first producer meeting (today) at E Kilbride.The mood was more positive than I had expected.
The 62 million figure is actually made up of £20 million for the plant and business and £49 million ( strewth) for cheese stocks = 69 million less £7 million representing the share of assets and stock First Milk already owns in Haverfordwest.

I don't disagree but at least ovens and co don't pretend to be the farmers saviour.
These co-ops are owned by farmers and are shafting farmers time after time after time.
We could all do as good a job and 99% of us could do a better job than those clowns.
Problem is we're not as bent and have too many morals to ever become elected.
I could go on for ever but I'll get off my soap box now and wish the First Milk suppliers good luck with their purchase They'll need it.

How many DC suppliers have actually signed up with First Milk and how many with Akkerman I heard FM have only managed to sign 4 can anyone tell me whats happening, is it true a First Milk director told DC producers that FM didnt want them anyway.
