Rubber flooring

Is there anyone with experience of rubber flooring? I'm looking at doing the parlour, part of the collecting yard and a couple of passage ways in the cow shed.
I've had a quote from Delaval but I've come round now emoticon
What other companies do people know about that supply rubber flooring.

Re: Rubber flooring

I think I remember KSM (the mattress people) doing it, sorry though, I don't remember the price. I was given a quote from our local Delaval agent a year or so ago and remember thinking it was several times what KSM wanted, don't know it's the same spec or anything though.

When I mooted the idea at home, I got ridiculed so much I put it to the back of my mind for now. Seems like a worthwhile investment if you can cut out sole ulcers from constantly walking/standing on concrete, though I suspect feet won't wear down as well and you end up trimming them anyway.

Re: Rubber flooring

We've had cubicle mats bolted to the floor of our collecting yard for nearly 20 years. Floor slopes and was causing too many accidents. Rubber mats have done a great job here, and don't show much sign of wear.

We have rubber along the feed aisles in the freestall barn for 10 years and in the holding pen for 2. If you are going to scape them with a skidsteer, you may cause damage to them. We haven't had a problem because we left an inch on each end for expansion and contraction, and we never scrape against the grain, ours are grooved. Overall they have worn very well one note of caution, in extreme cold weather 10F and below, they get very slick and we sprinkle them with either crushed stone, or sand.

We would probably cover all the alleys in it if we were doing it again. We really believe that it helps the older cows, one note, if you have any alley rats, they like to lay on the mat.

Rubber flooring

The first cubicle mats that we bought 15 years ago were solid rubber and we ripped them out after a couple of winters because they were so slippery. Interesting to see that Buckeye's matting is grooved. Maybe the mats on the market now are softer than our orignal ones.

Re: Rubber flooring

Mark you could do worse than have a chat with A.W of Willsbro, we went down there to see the herd last year, they had put a strip of matting down all the feed passages, and it was working really well for them, the cows given the choice all chose to walk on the matting and they were convinced that it significantly reduced feet problems.

Re: Rubber flooring

Sorry Mark, can't help you there, I thought it may be on their website, but unfortunately it's not, I'm sure if you gave them a ring they'd tell you, if you get the chance go and take a look at the set up, they are only a few miles from Newquay airport, it's well worth the price of the air ticket (ours only cost about £37!!!!!)

Re: Rubber flooring

Ive thought about this to. We have a very slippy yard and have had a couple of our best slip and put out hips-tried grooving but little effect.

Can slats be succesfully done with rubber? And does it encourage cows to lie out of cubicles??
