Hello Cowtalkers

emoticon Hi my name is John, i live in N Ireland, I milk 120 pedigree Holsteins under the prefix of Ballyginniff. I have two teenage sons who are both interested in breeding and showing. Together we spend a lot of time browsing the net and going to shows and sales throughout the UK and Ireland, to feed our interest in top quality genetics.
I have been a closet cowtalker for a while, but now i feel it's time to 'come out'

Re: …

I know some other closeteers that need a prod to come out. Myself, I was a snoop for about a year or so before I came out. We all enjoy cows and the crap that goes with them. I joined pretty much for the entertainment value, sometimes it's too quiet on here, slip up and you may hear about it, but not from me. By the way, what's with Bally over there? Another one is Bonnie in the prefix. Are they like hills and valleys?

Re: Hello Cowtalkers

Wellcome to Cowtalk, John. I have found it interesting and entertaining. And also that people who work with cows are pretty much alike the world over, and face the same problems and pleasures that come from working with dairy cows.

My previous knowledge of life in the UK came by way of Monty Python and Benny Hill.

Hello Cowtalkers

Mayjay about 20 years ago we had some people arrive at our farm from Australia they said their name was 'Ginniff' and they were looking for their ancestors. Unfortunately I couldn't help them. Ballyginniff is the townland i.e. local area where we live.

Hello Cowtalkers

As for learning about the UK from Python and Hill, I was only joking. I thought you’d get it. My older brother was a bomber pilot stationed in England during WW II, and Sir Winston Churchill is my all time favorite political hero. I used to be able to name all the British rulers from Alfred the Great to Queen Elizabeth II, but can’t any more.

My husband’s great gr’father was born in Scotland, and my son has spent time in both England and Scotland. My grandson was in London 2 years ago with a group from his highschool.

Through my son’s research, we disvovered that my husbsnd is the 18th cousin of Queen Elizabeth through John of Gaunt. We jokingly called him Sir Robert. As for being a Yank, I know that is what we over here are called, but I’m a little far South to answer to that, even if we were on side of the North.

Today is Memorial Day in the US, and we have a National Cemetary here in Springfield, where only the military are buried, and services are being held there today. The only one in the US where both soldiers from the North and South are buried in the same cemetary.

Well anyway, Blessed are the Cheese Makers.

Hi mmt95
Sorry for " Yanking" you, hadn't entirely thought that one through.
Have to agree with you on Winston Churchill. His charactor faults would prevent him attaining high office these days I fear.
You shame me on knowledge of kings/ Queens-I never knew them.
But it can now be said : Cowtalk , by Royal appointment.
I'm sure Mark we be applying for the warrant soon.

Re: Hello Cowtalkers

Really impressive, did you really have to learn all that info at school ?

When I studied history it was much more about the reasons behind different events, rather than just dates and names.

Although I do think we then lack some of the basic 'building blocks' of information, we also learnt a lot about human nature and motivations.

Hello Cowtalkers

Actually, I didn’t learn that in school, as our English history from school delt more with the American Revolution and that part of history.

My brothers and I loved heraldry and played “knights and armour” along with some neighbor kids. We had cardboard armour and fought with swords. (Shrine ceremonial swords) Mother made us quit that when I got stabbed in the back and had to have stitches.

We happened to have a history book at home listing the English rulers and I memorized the list, I guess to show off to the others. I never ran in to anybody else that could do it, or wanted to. I really showed off when I went to Canada to visit my Canadian cousins. I didn’t memorize the dates just the names.

I got this list from the internet, which is wonderful, because you can know everything without knowing anything.

emoticon Very impressive mmt95, your family was obviously very competitive. Oh , and backstabbing emoticon Have a karma point.

Just as an extra royal interesting fact, when Charles succeeds to the throne, he won't be King Charles, sounds daft ,but he will( provided he doesn't change the rule to scotch my story) assume a different predetermined name. But I can't remember it, sorry.
