Hello all!

I'm a 22 year old farm girl from Massachusetts. At the moment (due to school and such) I am not on a farm, hoping to change that soon, though. All of my experience is with small farms milking less than 100 cows. One was all registered Jerseys and the other was registered Holsteins and a few Jerseys. I've been fortunate enough to work with some really high rated animals. The mixed herd is made up of 50% Ex and 50% VG cows and they have a 95pt. Jersey!

My primary interest lies in calf care and management and nutrition.

Re: Welcome!

No one has given me an answer to my topic about my milking parlour walls yet . So, I have assumed that it is because I have not introduced myself. Originally from South West Scotland I now have a 160 hectare dairy unit at Biggar in Lanarkshire. I have farmed the unit organically for 10 years now. I do not own a pair of sandles or wear think woollen jumpers. I am happily married with two kids .

Id say you never got a reply because noone has an answer.....
when you post here you can get anything from a million answers that arent even relevant to a dressing down depending on how someone interprets a post.
so good luck and dont let the fact that you didnt get an answer deter you from contributing again

Hi My name is Matt and i am currently going to school at University of Guelph- Kemptville College for my agricultural diploma. I live in Lindsay, Ontario and we milk about 60 holsteins right now. We have a current classification record of 4 EX, 20 VG, 20 GP and probably 3 G. I love dairy cows and i am an avid member of the local dairy club. In the future i intend to expand my operation to about 90 cows.

Welcome Brian, so what kind of Irishman are you? Are you into EBI, showing or just middle of the road, happy-go-lucky?

Welcome!

Herd av for 08 was 9800kgs at 3.6fat and 3.30 protein off hand there's 8EX 35VG and the rest GP i don't think im a EBI farmer
not with an EBI of -9. EBI is grand for some
guys but you can't blame the cow for everything and i believe that a lot of fertilty problems are down to management.
An index that is weighed nearly
50% in favour of fertilty is not that balanced maybe im wrong time will tell.
Well done to munster today!!!

EBI has a place but not for us who want >9000kg average. It is well suited to the Spring calving lads.

Come on Munster!, next match is in thomond park now, its a huge advantage!
