I am disgusted that Mclaren has not taken responsibility for last night's result and resigned. It was his decision to pick Carson...or was it?

Did anyone see Mclaren being interviewed before the game last night. Asked why Wright-Phillips was preferred to Beckham he said and I quote, "I think we are playing 4-3-3, so SWP's pace is required to get forward in support of Crouch". Unbelievable!

What a mess the Wembley pitch is. Is the fact that so much money was spent on the stadium now requiring the FA to host too many events in order to repay the stadium?

Home Nations competition resurrected next summer?

How about Alex Mcleish or Walter Smith as the next England manager!

Re: …

I'm amazed McClaren didn't have the sense to know his position was untenable, and the dignity to resign immediately.

I'm also incredibly stunned that the person responsible for appointing McClaren,Brian Barwick, has not only kept his job but has been given the responsibility of selecting the next England manager. Did McClaren look a sound choice from day one?

Job almost has to be offered to Jose first up. Experience of the English game, European success', and available to start immediately mean there's not going to be many better candidates.

But basically anyone who can see that England play their best playing 4-4-2, it's no good playing for Crouch flick-ons if there's nobody to chase them, Lampard and Gerrard don't make an effective midfield partnership, and Lescott isn't an international standard defender. None of which are earthshattering news.

Re: New England Manager?

Id like to stand up for Carson, first competitive game, sh@te pitch, crappy weather, 40 caps BETWEEN the defenders infront of him. I am a Villan, so you can expect me to be biased, that said, James should have been in goal. And what the hell was Micah Richards doing for 90minutes. But the most shocking thing on view was the soft headed manager just standing, watching with disinterest. While the hell wasnt he screaming at his team? If I was him, I got to be honest, I would have stood down on the night. Inept, from day one.

Re: New England Manager?

I knew he wouldn't resign. We learn't at Boro that he is incredibly arrogant.

My first thoughts were for Mourinho on top of BB's reasons he also knows how to deal with the press.Having said that I don't think the FA will go for such a maverick.

Mark Hughes would be an interesting idea.He has done vey well with his clubs as well as with Wales. He also has a certain dignity that the press might find it hard to ridicule him as they have done with the last few England Managers.

First choice: Jose. Need someone with the personality to keep all those egos in check.

My second choice: BigBird! All-round sports sage. He is always champion at fantasy league!!!

Re: New England Manager?

Thanks for that, Tom, but I'm not expecting a call from the FA. Unlike virtually every likely candidate I won't rule myself out just yet though.

Media skills might be a problem. On a bad day some reporter would be too likely to end up with his microphone where the sun don't shine.

Looks like the only one who wants the job is Fabio Capello, but after Steve McClaren surely they have to offer it to Sammy Lee first. emoticon

you know what they say, you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. btw why is it that the demand for skill is only aimed at the person in front of the camera/microphone, the guy behind it can be any dimwit and often are???
