book reading

at the moment I'm reading my first book by Charles D!ckens, and the book is "great expectations". I must say that it has been quite an experience, not the easiest of reads but very fascinating, I'm beginning to realize why he belong to the literary giants.
I have one question for those who've read anything by D!ckens, did you understand everything? I mean, perhaps I'm a bit slow but on every page there's words I've never seen before and the complex nature of his sentence building is just extraordinary.

I had to tinker with the spelling or mr D!ckens would have a vital part of his name caught in the profanity filter, a part I'm sure he'd object fiercely to be separated from.
