May you all get what you wish for this year.

All the best folks.

Enjoying early 2008, watching Australia vs India on the telly (VVS Laxman is in sublime form at the moment and the Aussies are chasing leather - which needless to say cheers me up no end) then I nip out to do a couple of local deliveries and get back to watch SA v West Indies at Newlands, keeping the body temperature down by forcing the odd Miller down my gullet. Life's hell in Africa!

Re: 2008

Spot on Broa. Sixteen shots sounds a tad excessive, the only one we need updated if we go up north is yellow fever. Malaria is the biggest danger, best way to prevent that is roll on repellent and go indoors early evening when the mossies go cruising. If sundowners are part of the schedule be sure to be covered up or lathered in repellent. Prophlactics are available but some of them have curious mood altering side affects.

Re: 2008

I'm sure you do, but you did a good job hiding it in your post. I wasn't sure so I grabbed the oportunity to poke some fun.
your use of the word smartarse could be interpreted either as an insult said in anger or as a protest between friends. since I can't see your facial expressions nor hear your voice I can only judge from whathever previous knowledge I might have of your way of expressing yourself here at cowtalk.
I prefer to think it's the friendly version emoticon

My facial expression would be something like this at that point- emoticon , maybe this- emoticon

I don't take many things seriously, your post made me laugh too, even when it was at my expense. If you can't laugh at yourself, it would hardly be fair to laugh at anyone else!

Re: 2008

Racism is quite a touchy subject, I have always thought its how you say something rather than what you say. My brother is a teacher and its amazing how p.c. you have to be. For instance, I was in Chile last year, and when out drinking with the sales reps was referred to as the gringo, for me it was a term of endearment, certainly the way it was said, but some people would take offence to that.

The mind does boggle. Wanker would have been more fitting when Symonds didn't walk after the biggest snick in the history in the game. It also bothered me when Clarke also stood his ground until the umpire bulleted him, (I know you don't have to walk, but its hardly in the spirit of the game, as you say it is not as honourable as it once was) and I was just think the Aussies are a far nicer team under Ponting than they were under Waugh.

Symonds is far from my favourite cricketer, I danced a jig when Makhaya Ntini popped him in the mouth with a rising ball when they were last here.

Who would have thought Ricky Ponting one of the greatest batsmen ever would be someones bunny, Harbijan really seems to have his number.

Still think India is over reacting as did Pakistan with the Darryl Hare incident a while back.

I think it was last year that Hershelle Gibbs was overheard on the stump mike grumbling something mildly derogatory about 'Pakis' and got a rap on the knuckles and the incident was quickly forgotten. If a white South African cricketer had said the same thing all hell would have broken loose and it would have even been mentioned in Parliament. Sometimes there seems to be two sets of rules.

Re: 2008

I wouldn't claim to be an expert on cricket, but the attitude of the australian team is just another refelction on the way sport has gone.

Appealing for everything, no matter how ridiculous, constant sledging, refusing to walk and then boasting about it later. All symptoms of the 'win at all costs' attitude that is making sport unpleasant to watch or play.

Australia are not the only ones, but they are probably the worst example in the game.

However did SA manage to lose the first test to these windy muppets who only appear to have one test class player in their whole team?

Arrogance on our part. Chris Gayle on their part, I think he is going to be a good captain. They sorted us out in the first test, we won after a good battle in the second and then with Gayle out injured we rolled them in three days in the third test to take the series.
