Mating suggestions please!

Iv got a Maiden ready to be served and was wondering what poeple suggested i bred her to. She is a tall Freeman calf out of a (VG-86 2yr) Champion whos out of a mascot. To see pics or for a link to the pedigree -

Re: Mating suggestions please!

Are you looking for type or are you looking for numbers? How worried are you about calving ease?

With that pedigree and with Inspiration before the Mascot you will really have to protect legs. Would Outside be out of the question?

Re: Mating suggestions please!

I was going to mention protecting for legs Mark, then I thought I'd be accused of Rudolph/Champion bashing again. emoticon

With Storm, Mascot, Inspiration (x2) and Starbuck, might she want protecting for udder texture. That for me would rule out Outside & Blitz. How about one of the many Durham sons (for a change!). Zenith would protect feet & udder texture.

Is she a little short, as in lacking in length not height? Or is it just the photo?

I am with Jonny. My experience with Zenith is he can sire a shallow heel and most of the daughters I have seen you really love, until you get to the feet and legs. They can be a bit frail sometimes also. If she were mine I would breed her to Baxter or if you weren't worried about marketing breed her to Potter.

Re: Mating suggestions please!

All I know is that all of our Zeniths have a very steep foot angle and hard, black feet. We have only one taht has had any problems at all, and considering her pedigree it is hardly suprising! We use him to improve feet based on our experience, I am sure his proof will show that soon enough. emoticon

Conversely, our Blitzs (es?) are all a bit soft in the hoof and need a bit of care, they also tend to be bit "baggy" as young cows. Oceans of milk, just have a few doubts as to whether they will make old cows.

JEB12, you will incur the wrath of smous if you dis Potter like that. Perhaps a Potter will be very marketable.

Not dissing Potter, just meant he isn't the new kid on the block anymore. We are milking 25 daughters now and I am still using him. I believe him to be Manfred's best son for type. I think of him as one of the more complete bulls of the breed right now with a nice balance of milk, health traits, and type.

Re: Mating suggestions please!

Something like Lheros could work well, not easy calving though. Ross is a bull I like, he would work on her.

if your suggesting lheros why not one of his sons; like karona bonair or stantons sidney!
i like atlas if you can get him, there looks like a good new outside son from genus; palmcrest breakout
