Oldest to classify ex

Recently had a cow go ex at 15yrs 6mth. does anyone know of an older cow to classify ex for the first time. My old girl is a stardom with almost 120,000 litres. Never would have got there under the old class system, but the canadian system which aus now uses rewards the cow that lasts.

Re: Oldest to classify ex

Here in Denmark, cows can only be scored in first 3 lakt. emoticon

But no problem, 291 1.calvers was scored EX, highest 92.
94 3.calvers went EX
(2006 figures. 83.973 cows scored in total)

Bull with highest average daughters : Stormatic 85, (141 cows)

Re: Oldest to classify ex

the problem with different scales for different age groups is that the value of a given point will vary, this makes it difficult to convert the scores into indexes. therefor it was decided to use one scale for all ages. at least that's the reasons I've been given.
personaly I think converting classification scores into indexes is much the same as trying to get the thruth out of a politician.
not easily done and you never can be sure if you can trust it.

Re: Oldest to classify ex

Congrats mooramba! I will ask around here in my part of the world, may take a while though.

Man JTTH that doesn´t sound like a very good system that your stuck in ,2 yr. olds going EX. and 4th lact. cows not allowed to.

I´ve often thought that cows shouldn´t be classified until they get into their 2nd. lactation.

Re: Oldest to classify ex

have to agree, that ex at that age is impressive.

You seem particularly keen on this single malt broa, is it one you picked up on your last tour, or part of a collection?

Re: Oldest to classify ex

alan,
I wish I could make it a collection but considering my feeble charater it's just what happens to be in my possesion at the time, single malt is my achilles heel if you may, and I for one belong to the echelons of admirers that think single malt surely must be the nectar of gods.

Re: Oldest to classify ex

Personally 2nd calvers should only be able to go as high as 89, with 3rd calvers going EX. 1st calvers should have an upper limit of 85 maybe 86.. Mammarys should only go EX at 3yrs.. I say this because if a cow is THAT good, she will go ex at 4yrs old, and some have scord 2yr olds to 89, then wait till 4 to score that animal again.

Considering the majority of cattle that go Ex (this is from classifiers, not my opinion), start out at 82-83. Wasn't it a cow in Canada that went 97 a few years back, started out at 81 or so?

That cow to go Ex at 15, shows she has longevity written all over her.

Re: Oldest to classify ex

Thanks for the kind wishes. Broa, i appreciate the offer ,but unfortunately the good stuff would be wasted on me, may as well give me a shot of your cheapest. My tastes are very basic and i am sure i could not do your single malt justice. Back to the subject. I personally would cap 1st calvers at 86, 2nd at 88, 3rd at 90, 4th at 91 and 5 and up could go max, which i think is 97. Jersey mate told recently of a 2nd calver that went 91 or 92, i forget which , but blew her udder a few weeks later. Instances like that do not instil confidence in the breed or the class system, or the people doing the class.

Just think what kind of type proof convincer and emerson would have had if there were a system that didn´t classify until cows were 2 nd. calvers?

Congratulations Mooramba!

This is what I recently posted under Main Chat - High lifetime yields:
quote:

Gerbrich wrote:

Last Friday a 17-year-old F16 was awarded for the production of 10 tonnes of F&P and classified EX as well. With this she now has all the awards that are available in Holland: HT (100 tonnes of milk), TT (10 tonnes of F&P), Star Cow 1, 2 and 3 (award for cows aged 9, 12 and 15 that on average have produced 5% above herd average and classify VG with a VG udder) and Star Brood Cow.

She is from the golden cross of F16 x Long-Haven Scotty!

Oldest to classify ex

I had a neighbor years back that had a Lime-Hollow Elevation Mars go EX the first time at 17 yrs and something. The classifier made her 100 in feet and legs and she sure deserved it. Walked beautifully with a great foot.

Oldest to classify ex

LHE Mars was always in the shadows of the other Mars: ME Tony. He did make some great frames and legs. Udders were just average in my herd, but they made some nice daughters.

My oldest cow to go EX that i remember was a Raider at 11-04.

Oldest to classify ex

our oldest/latest to classify EX was LC elsie 2 born 27/05/94 and went EX on 04/01/04 ,had 7 lactations was STP awarded and has level 1 lifetime production award. Despite rescoring EX in all categories on her 7th lactation the rules then prevented her from 2E as she had been in milk more than 300 days. BY our own bull - lass councellor a carnation councellor son from a G78 hanoverhill profit.
