Queen of the breed, Roxy!

The family has performed well in many many herds and is a family i have wanted to get into for a while. I have finally bought some embryos from the USA and was wondering just how great the family is? i thought anybody who has a family descending from the roxys could tell us all how they have performed in their herds.

Currently in our herd of 80 we are milking 12 2EX, 7VG, 3GP(which will all score higher barring accidents etc) Great herd cows the kind that look after themselves!

If I may ask what were the pedigrees on those embryo's? The last sale I went to had a bunch of Roxy's sell and they were a pretty popular group of cows as far as sale price goes.

Buze

They are Advent embryos out of an *RC Goldwyn x September storm (VG-86) x Monet (EX-92) x Scientific Cherry Rae Red (VG-86) x Jubilant Rae (EX-90) (dam of debutante Rae) x Tony Rae (EX-96) and then 2 more EX dams until Roxy.

Re: Queen of the breed, Roxy!

The Rae line is one of the best lines of the Roxys. After milking TT Roxette at Hanoverhill in 1989, I went down to Veeman Dairy in oregon to try and buy some daughters of Tony Rae (TT Roxette's daughter), where Matt Nunes Scientific herd was housed at the time. Together with my Dutch friend we purchased three from the family including a VG-2y Blackstar and a GP83-2y Jubilant out of Tony Rae. Unfortunately the deal fell through after we returned home and we purchased an Inspiration, Scientific Sugar Rae and a Tab sister to Tony Rae, Hanoverhill Roxanne, as second choices. Neither of these cows produced a single egg conventionally, and of course the Jubilant went on to score EX and become one of the best brood cows in the Roxy family...

Re: Queen of the breed, Roxy!

The branch of the roxys id like to get into, would be the raes, especially the Lana Rae, who is from Gloryland.

Actually, a red roxy would be the type of roxy id be after.. There is a Talent from Debutante that is going through the Virginia Sale of Stars sale on Aug 1st. She is appraised between 40-60k.. Her full brother is Debonair-RED at select.. I beleive she is due as well this fall.

wow, that's a monster of a statement isn't it? the Roxys have produced well over 200 excellents in the US alone, so belonging to the best of that family is a different ball game altogether, compared to just about any other family.

There is a Dundee granddaughter of Lana Rae selling in the Brigeen Blast sale in July. The dam is an EX Lee. The Dundee is a potential 9th generation Excellent.

With 8 (or is it 9?) EX daughters including the WDE Reserve Champion, Debutante Rae, I think it was a valid statement, even for the Roxys. She definitely was ONE of the best brood cows in the family - however who would be THE best- Mil-R-Mor Roxette for breeding Raider? Old Citation Roxy Herself? hanoverhill Tony Rae?, Gloryland Lana Rae? Brigeen Integrity Robin? or even here in the UK with Bond Haven Dixie Rox and her descendants????

Re: Queen of the breed, Roxy!

Eryl Vet, I hope you didn't think my comment was ment as critisism, I just wanted to underline the magnitude of being among the very best of that particular family. as you've just mentioned there's no shortage of great brood cows among the Roxys. when it comes to number of Excellent daughters I think old Roxy herself is still leading the way, but with so many members of the family scattered all over the world I can't really tell for sure. regardless of that, I do agree your statement was valid indeed.

Queen of the breed, Roxy!

***disclaimer*** we are working with some tony raes here, so everyone knows my background on it.

I almost wonder if star roxy isn't the best brood cow of the group. She had 3 94 point daughters by leadman, mascot and inspiration. Those aren't exactly the easiest bulls to get an 80 point cow out of, much less a 94 point one. Tony rae's line big strength is making eggs, debutante would crank out 25-35 a month and as I understand her mother the jubilant could do the same thing. That's a lot of oppurnity to mother some excellent offspring.

You're making me feel even more depressed ... Scientific Sugar Rae, the second choice cow I ended up with, must have been the exception that proves the rule ! the biggest thing I got from flushing her was the bill from an ET centre in the mid-west!!!!!!

What are the chances that it stays red?

probaly not good, it looks like a real red but the only source I can see is charles, which is obviously black-red. We just did the durham to regiment because we thought apple looked like a nice cow.

We purchased a potential 8th generation excellent Redman daughter out of Golden-Oaks Perk Rae at the 2007 WDE. She calved in with a bull about 3 ½ weeks ago. We scored yesterday and were very excited about her – she went VG 85 with a VG 86 Mammory.

Perk Rae is now VG 86, but from what we heard – she just calved not to long ago – or should be some time around now – so she’ll be scored again.

The Redman that we purchased though will be entering our flush program in a few weeks.
