Good cow, how much does she weigh? Do you have any milking daughters of her? If so what is their breeding and are they an improvement on her?

Are those records made on 3x and/or BST?

I like the cow. Great width and feet and legs,

JohnnyL, We have been looking at an alternative to Scandinavian reds in three way crossing systems, how do Swiss rack up in your opinion?
Is the HxSwiss not too big?
If Jersey is in the mix that should bring size down and reduce age at puberty?
What size are the calves?

Re: …

several years ago we had 3 SRB heifers serviced by mistake by a SRB bull when all of them was 9 months of age, why would you need reduced age at puberty below 9 months?

Don't need it below 9 months, just need it in the normal range between Jeresy and Holstein. Pure Montys and Swiss definetly reach puberty later, which is a problem for strict seasonal breeders, who need heifers to calf at two years of age so as to fit their breeding patterns. SRB do not suffer the same problem.

Re: My Crossbred Cow Thread....

Here is a milking daughter of 1092, a first lactation cow. She is sired by Sperringe, a Swedish Red bull. Unfortunately, Sperringe is one of the poorest Swedish Red bulls for daughter fertility and that was expressed in this 1st lactation cow and even as a heifer. Her production has been a tick above her mother so far compared to her mother's first lactation. We did finally get her pregnant to Q Impuls (same sire as her 1 day old half sister).

We also had two more older daughters. A Holstein X Brown Swiss X Jersey F2 that died from hardware (we're guessing) shortly after having her first calf (that also was a victim of a very hard winter for our calves).

The other daughter sired by Magna (3/4 Holstein 1/4 Brown Swiss) that gave me two lactations of slightly lower production than her mother (heterosis lost?) but good fertility. Unfortunately after having her third calf she suddenly died from internal bleeding I'm guessing. Saw she had a heifer and was licking it over and found her dead shortly after. Her last calf her first daughter... a 37.5% Holstein 12.5% Brown Swiss 50% Swedish Red (O Brolin).

Interesting family, and I was absolutely delighted that the matriarch delivered me a daughter the other night from Q Impuls and looks poised to hit 200,000 lbs lifetime this lactation.

Now the question is, what do I breed her to now? emoticon
