This heifer was born with her tail like that. Her grandmother was born with no tail at all. Being that this Pronto heifer is from a very productive Finley mother, I'm going to flush her a few times as a heifer to see if there is anything to this tail thing.

Two months younger than her penmates in the background and already about the same size.

I've had a heifer born with just a stump of a tail, got pictures of a calf years ago that had some of the skin of the tail fused to one pin.

Probably within the realm of "normality"

Isn't there also a recorded defect called a wry tail in classification?

 I had an Integrity calf with a tail that length, but two individual switches.
