1000 up

I am proud to have reached 1000 posts as Bullpen - some of you will also have had the misfortune to read my earlier posts as Bob or Bob Hardy.
Sorry if I have bored you or upset you over the years. We have seen plenty of new voices come and go - some of us have undoubtadly overstayed our welcome. I have really enjoyed the majority of contributors and even the cut and thrust of my oponents rapier like wit and debate. Long may it continue!

It just would not be the same without you Bob, and certainly not as much fun.

Congratulations to you too Canuk -never realised you had beaten me there! Maybe we should have a party. I will bring the apple pie, paella, spaghetti and you can bring the maple syrup!I will bring the leinenkeugals, kentucky moon shine, sangria and vino rossi and you can bring the labatts. For entertainment I will bring Whitney, Pavarotti and Enrico Inglasias and you can sing that lumberjack song.

It's funny, you see this on every site. It could be a computer site, or hunting site. When people reach that 1000 post mark its a "big deal". Here's a cookie emoticon.

"Isangoma" is frequently quite wrongly translated as witchdoctor, because she or he (there are also a few male izangoma) is neither a witch, nor a doctor. Witchcraft is the trade of the umthakathi and treatment of sickness is the task of the iNyanga. If you want to understand the role of the isangoma, I must tell you the conception of sickness in the traditional Zulu society: There are only three possible reasons for any evil, mishap or bad event (including sickness, loss of employment, accidents, failure at school, lightening strikes, bad harvest, and many more):
You have been bewitched by an umthakathi (witch)
Imimoya emibi (evil spirits) influence your life
Your amadlozi (ancestral spirits) "remind" you that a sacrifice for them is overdue.

Summary: The isangoma has a purely diagnostic function to find out the reason for your sickness.

I thought it was pretty cool to be a witchdoctor emoticon

Re: 1000 up

- just realised that I've joined the ranks of the humble exalted.

Have to say it doesn't feel any different, even though I've been around for about a millenium now.

I've immensely enjoyed the banter and the education that cowtalk provides, and I'm the richer for it.

I'd also like to thank my producer, the make-up team in light of a difficult job, costume department...
