Semex's sires of sons
Just some interesting findings after looking up their young sire list. # of sons of the following.
Inquirer - 111
Marshall - 82
Convincer - 64
Lantz - 32
Hershell - 44
Addison - 21
aaron - 19
Dutch boy - 25
Manat - 25
Igniter - 44
Mtoto - 35
Webster - 5
Brock - 27
Fred - 13
Emerson - 51
James - 56
outside - 27
Allen - 31
Durham - 20
Gibson - 14
Rubens - 9
Coustea - 2
Integrity - 5
Encore - 1
several others could go in with 1-5 sons, but really, no harm in trying a few of everything. have probably missed a few Progress has quite a few sons,as does Winchester, and lost count of Leducs but think he has 13. Of coarse no one knows for sure who or how many will turn out, and for sure some will, but would be willing to bet just as many turn out from the botton 9 of that group, even when overall the the top 15 has 5 times the # of chances. Not sure about the rest of the world, and I deffinatly understand, not everyone is looking for the same thing(what a bore that would be) its just that in Canada TODAY the majority of the top 15 bulls on that list would see very limited use, some would get absolelutly no use at all, yet they get more chances for A.I's, that just dosn't seem right.

Re: Semex's sires of sons
Some of the worst bulls on your list may turn
out a good one if mated to the correct cow
but what i can see is bad bulls been used on
the wrong cow. When i see a proof of a bull
that has not proven himself i can see why
this has happened because of poor matings.
When i want to use a bull i always look for
the bad points of the bull first so i know
how to use him better. How many proven
bulls in Canada have a dutch sire. The only
one i know of is Comestar Export. In my eyes
using vast amounts of money proving bulls
of this nature is a waste of time and money.

Re: Semex's sires of sons
There are around 8,000 new Emerson daughters that should be milking for the first time in 2004. That should lower the desire for using Emerson sons.

Re: Semex's sires of sons
What is so bad about Emerson (apart from their evil streak in the parlour)?
We milk two, they are both VG two year olds and I am very happy with them. Great feet and legs and like maturing into nice cows.

Re: Semex's sires of sons
I guess you judge a bull by the daughters in your own herd. We have one VG, but she is mean and a sloooow milker. Three others are average for type,(80,79,&81) good legs, but on the round, small order. The other one we thought would be a top 2 yr old, the result of a contract mating, was so mean and dangerous, and slow milking that we finally had to beef her.
We have some more to freshen, hope for better luck.
