Re: What Bull Sank Faster Then The Titanic?

They give AI a bad name. And thats a shame because the farmer owned AI cooperative companies of the world are genuinely trying to find the best of all the bulls they sample. These breeder proven sires are sometimes deliberately manufactured proofs. Problem is that even genuinely proven sires with honest intentions can sometimes drop.
other factor is that actually some breeder proven sires have been breed leading sires - sorting the wheat from the chaff is the biggest problem.
I guess a lot comes down to trust. Do you trust the owner of that bull to be honest and include all records, not to ship daughters and contempories around, not to make preferential matings and preferential treatment. If not - don't touch it with a barge pole. They can make a one point type sire into a 3.5 type sire.
quote: Guess what, I have found the first mention of me being accused of slagging off Champion on 29th March.
Canuk is trying to get me to say something about the bull even back then. But no, he couldn't.
You can read into this dialog what you will, but I have not named names! You can only accuse me of what i have actually written not what you assume I meant
Who else could you possibly mean? I agree with buckeyebreeder from another thread. This whole thing is getting very childish. Let it go.

Re: What Bull Sank Faster Then The Titanic?
Way to go Howie, there seems to be a lot of ***** fighting with handbags going on around here and to be honest I dont really like it.
so quit spoiling this great site please, both of you, because I like it. As for my opinion, Leadership has done wonders for us, everyone calved gone VG 2yr including 88 and 87 heifers and both have gone 89 2nd calf, fingers crossed for their next calf. Fred was supposed to be a hotshot but never did anything. Jolts for me has been a disappointment, we had two both with hanging bags in their 3rd.

Re: What Bull Sank Faster Then The Titanic?
Most recently,
LEDUC. Sold as the No.1 type bull in the world? They knew what they were doing.
Further back.
DOMBINATOR. Had a crazy index and then belly-flopped. Slow milking too.

Re: What Bull Sank Faster Then The Titanic?
Dombinator worked well here, and would certainly be in the top 5 bulls we've ever used, probably top 3. Very raw as heifers but turned into big powerful milky cows.

Re: What Bull Sank Faster Then The Titanic?
Dombinator did throw some good ones alright. I still have one, probably fourth calver. Very hard to rebreed, and very slow, but strong as an ox.
Leduc was advertised by Alta in the UK along with Marshall on a two page spread in Holstein Journal. The advert was something like:
Marhshall No.1 for production?
Leduc No.1 for type?
The implication is definitely there, despite the question mark.

Re: What Bull Sank Faster Then The Titanic?
Definately Leduc in recent times. As for the past I would say Cracin Royal; he was a former #1 type bull in the U.S. He was a California proven bull and after his second crop started calving in his proof went right down the tubes, odds are he had a faulty proof to begin with.

Re: What Bull Sank Faster Then The Titanic?
Leduc will be the next Rudolph, everybody hates them in their first lactation but just wait till they mature in their 3rd 4th lac. You'll be screaming for him.

Re: What Bull Sank Faster Then The Titanic?
I would have disagree I don't think Leduc will ever be a great bull, he can throw the fancy one's but you have to go through a lot of pukes to get the good one.
