Semen World August 2004

Sandy-Valley Onyx USA- At last there is a bull +2.42 on type, +2.56 udders and +2.10 feet and legs that is also an attractive +0.07% butterfat and +0.03% protein percentage. He is also one of the best in the breed for somatic cell improvement (–17) and calving ease. He is by world famous Carol Prelude Mtoto and comes from the same USA cow family as Forbidden – a great all rounder.

Ford - Italy- now with 1000’s of daughters in Italy and keeps climbing on type (+2.58), udders (+2.80) and percents. First 12 2 yr olds scored in UK have given us 6 VG’s already, including a nice VG88 2 yr old from Overside and a VG87 2 yr old at Twilight and other VG’s at Hayleys, Cogent, Inch and Linmore. Fords are not much taller than the average cow but a lot deeper and wider with great udders and very good feet and legs. He is ideal for those wanting power with great udders. Added benefit of great SCC score (–11).

Cocherill- Italy – As you would expect being a Storm from Mtotos sister, the feet and legs (+2.99) on this sire as near to perfect as you will find. The pedigree which also includes Luke and Blackstar also spells silky style and dairy quality. He is one of the best for combining fancy type (+2.91) with decent fat and protein percentages. The first Cocherills have now calved out for the second time in Italy and they are developing very well.

Tresor – Italy- Was featured in the June edition of Holstein International and is the highest combination of type and production available in the UK. Standing at +3.06 Type and +2.57 Udders with 52.4kgs of fat and protein he is something special. There is nothing on the market that comes close to his production at this level of type. He comes from a great cow family, which has been developed using some of the highest production sires in the breed over recent years. They are powerful, wide cows with high and wide rear udders, very strong ligament and great teat placement. This major sire father and flush sire is certainly affordable to use across the herd and can also be used on heifers.
A sire our competitors are using in their nucleus herds and sire breeding programmes.

Hillcrest- USA- now has lots of UK and USA daughters in their third lactation and they appear to have an incredible survival rate. These are powerful, durable cows that milk like crazy with such youthful looking udders. The owners are delighted with them and enthuse about their will to milk, their temperament, their frame, udders and exceptional feet and legs +2.81 Type Merit. He is calving ease and is one of the very best in the breed for SCC (-15). He is the best combination for milk and frame that can be purchased anywhere. Four Excellent 5 yr old daughters in 4 different herds so far from his first crop in UK plus a multitude of high VG’s confirm his ability to breed great mature cows.
The pedigree contains nothing less than Ex94 for 3 generations. Great success story.

Blitz –USA_ the second crop of these are now calving out in the USA. They are some of the most stylish cows with the greatest will to milk you will find. His type (+2.79) and milk (+1136kgs) climbed to new heights this time. Lacks components but makes up for it in so many other ways. The best combination of dairy strength you will find anywhere. The calves are very nice and if you are looking for a show calf – this is your best choice.
