Took a nice jump in his type proof. He looks very usable. Maybe a nice bull to use on frail extremely dairy cows as the Blitz on Mtoto mating seems a bit strong to me?

He has Inspiration lurking back in his pedigree, I suppose it is possible that he carries black-red.

Re: Emerald Acres Baxter

We used E A Vision, who is a CVM Convincer out of Mandel Toot, quite heavily as a sweeper. We got several red calves born (RC I assume?), so there must be a bit of red lurking in the female line somewhere.

X St croixco pioneer X lavacres chal praire!

Vision only has one registered red calf in the UK and that has Inspiration on the maternal side so could be RB anyway.

I asked your dad once if he used any red bulls. He said something like - not if I can help it !

I see Baxter is listed as a 5 for conception on the ERCR list. I think he is second to only Talent on that list.

Re: Emerald Acres Baxter

If he is anything like his sire then you should get a good bunch of......strong, white, bull calves. emoticon Blitz, for us, made Shottle look like a heifer breeder!

When I told the Alta rep that the other day, he told me that the next generation often swings back the other way. Really! Our home bred Blitz son did the same, and he was from a family that rarely has bulls.

I like the bull & his pedigree. Out of interest, what is Baxter costing? I was quoted £32/straw, with a couple thrown in for discount. I wouldn't have thought that he was that good.

Re: Emerald Acres Baxter

I bought 10 units of Baxter last week for $50. My rep told me that he is in short supply right now. He is given 20 units to sell every two weeks and is going to have a waiting list for him.
The field reps from Alta say he is the most consistant bull they have in active line-up with daughters that have a wide front end with a deep barrel. They can get a little coarse. I am not sure if i am sold on him yet. I would like to see some daughters with multiple calves on them. My Emory daughters always matured a little to quickly.

Like i said previously,we have used a lot of baxter and have many pregnancies by him so watch this space!
Our alta rep (hi david!) gave us a dvd of an alta usa trip, showed a good few baxter daughters,i must say i was very impressed with the uniformity of udders, all very good, strong and correct teat placements.

Fraser, how was the teat length on the daughters in the DVD? Also how were the front teats place placed?

JEB,was quite difficult to see front teats as most cows were filmed at feed trough,i can honestly say all the daughters on the dvd were very good of rear udder/support and teat placement, teat lengths were average i'd say not too short or long.
i must add that the cows filmed were not 'show' cows they were in cubicles and in very large herds ie 1000-2000head

Just had my first Baxter calf born this morning. Unassisted heifer calf out of a 88 point machoman daughter. Nice strong healthy aggressive calf. Just wish she had waited till december.

posticon Re: Emerald Acres Baxter

Since the heifer in November, I have had 8 consecutive bulls emoticon. All were unassisted but really large and out of cows.I have some heifers due to him soon and I am a bit concerned about calving easy. I see he has dropped down to a 7 for CE but I have heard others complain about hard calvings. What has been everyone elses experience with him so far?
