Re: Regancrest Dolman

had a few calves, look really nice, only one big problem. A lot of them seem to lack life. As in being born dead. I've had 1 alive out of 3, and a guy down the road has been 1 for 4 i think. Anybody else notice this problem?

There are not very many daughters around from a report from our area rep he said that alot of them have had fluke accidents like heads caught in gates and dieing... we had a first crop daughter and she was jumped one night on wet concrete and then decide to crawl under the fence and down a little hill....we have had 4 calves since then with dolman and have had 2 bulls (one dead) and 2 heifers.

Re: Regancrest Dolman

Our Dolman is2 months old now, and she has a wider rump than any other calf i've seen that age at our place. Really strong calf. But things may change when we get more on the ground.

Have had about 14 born here oldest born late March just about holding their own with the competition in the pen but no better than most of the UK tested bulls that I have been using alongside him

If you were looking for milk and fat% then maybe Tennyson? Dolman should protect him for teat placement and depth of heel/foot angle. Maybe watch for fore attachment and teat length. 4 crosses of Blackstar, but I would not have a problem with that.

we have probably around 15 Dolmans and my 4-H calf this year is a Dolman. Has anybody else had Dolmans with too much set to their legs because most of ours have the same legs

Re: Regancrest Dolman

We have five heifers on the ground now. The oldest is breeding age. We showed both the two older ones this year. The three younger ones are too young. I find them consistent so far. Tall, lacking a touch of depth. Built solid and strong. Maybe a little coarse over the tail head and hock in just a touch. Besides that great calves. They don't seem to lead overly well though. Take off the halter and they walk just fine though. We're still using him. No calving problems yet either besides those first bunch when we lost a few.

Most of our Dolmans are very consistent strong animals with lots of depth and really wide rumps i dont think i have ever seen our calves be that wide before. They do have a little too much set to their legs but overall very good calves. Looking forward to see what they look like when they calve out.
