Re: I have in the Tank...

Sorry to go off topic, but I noticed many of you had or wanted Linjet in your tank. I just got the last 10 units Semex had available in Western Canada, and I'm interested in your thoughts on the bull. I haven't seen many, but know there are a bunch of good ones. What are you using him on, where does he work best, was he very underrated etc.? Thanks.

Re: I have in the Tank...

Use Linjet on ultra dairy cows with good feet. All our Linjets have had bad feet, protect those two areas and you'll be fine. We do have one that is EX as a 3 year old, but has bad feet, really nice cow though.

Why any cow with bad feet should score Excellent is beyond me.

No milk, bad feet? Where does this bull fit in to the real world of commercial dairy farming?

Re: I have in the Tank...

As opposed to the real world of golf courses ? emoticon

Seriously he is 86% good plus and better, on over 1000 Canadian daughters, 47 Ex only 1 Fair.

He is positive for legs and feet, only showing -6 bone quality.

He is also one of the biggest improvers from 1st to 3rd lactation on the test day model.
Mature equivalent for daughters is slightly over 10,000 kg.

Whilst he is by no means the perfect bull, he supplies strength, rump width and later maturing daughters.

He is also a good score for herd life and cell count, whilst improving milking speed.

many 'commercial' breeders are cmplaining about frail cows not lasting. Many would be happy to sacrifice some heifer production for longer lasting cows, that have higher lifetime yields. Hey, they might even get to make some profit.

Re: I have in the Tank...

More and more people are saying these days that their ideal heifer is GP 82-83 then matures into an EX cow into her 4th-5th lactation. This is what Linjet in most cases will do, and along with the scores their production will also increase with each lactation. We had an 88 point 2 yr old Jed last year and calved again this year and I can tell you she will never go EX.

Joking aside, your point raises a fascinating issue of what is real and what is not. Farming is real - even the artificial sides like insemination!
Golfing is of course a pointless game just like any other sport but we all hold a fascination in these games that make us spend our disposable income persueing them. Collectively, people will spend billions upon billions in sport - perhaps even more than they will spend on their homes and cars - all for what? The owners of stadiums and golf courses can charge enormous prices for ordinary people to watch other people making millions. The real workers in the world earn a pittance keeping food costs down so that these same people have disposable income to spend on leisure. Seems a strange world and nothing really makes sense does it - especially my ramblings?

Forget Outside for future purchase in the UK, sold out and probably summer before more available, if he increases production.

Icefyer is not doing that well just yet he only has a few daughters on the ground but nothing special but things can change.I would put money on BamBam to be the better brother out of the two.Braedale Buick his brother by Hershel will get proof this time dont think he will be as good as Goldwyn but he may be a decent Hershel son that can be used.
