Re: Measland Duplex

Ours are about to be bulled (we calve a bit later than some) and every one looks a peach, just wish we could have had a few more heifers.

We are using a home-bred son as a sweeper and he is a tidy, if tall, idividual.

just calved the first of our duplex daughters we have to milking now with quite a few due as we used him quite heavily. they are both just 2 year old but very well grown with good legs and feet. my favourite of the 2 is Ards Duplex O ruth, off an outside. she has tremendous udder attacments with good teat placement and lovely depth of rib.

Re: Measland Duplex

Duplex x Iron not exactly a Golden Cross. I would have used him on Mtoto or Otuside.

Let me guess the problems, Bad rump angle, thurls back and sickled legs? Weak loin short head and neck?

Re: Measland Duplex

No it isn't a golden cross,it was the result of a split straw!

However the dam had an amazing uddder and was easily the best of the boss irons for production. This heifer actually has a sloped rump and is not short in the neck. She is narrow in the udder with the back teats nearly wider than the front teats. It is narrow front and back but very deep.Probably best not to give it a push or it might topple over sideways.Legs are poor as were mumm's.She's young and maybe I am being too quick to judge,I'll come back in a couple of months and let you know if she improves!

Havent got any milking yet but the oldest 2 are in calf now. One is off a Terrason and is a smashing heifer - better in the leg than her mum, with good rump and really smart. The other is off a 93 point Integrity and at the min, you'd fault her through her rump. His proof still shows some slope to the rump - not sure he's going to end up that way.

Anyone milking yet? Saw a milking heifer last week. She was dairy, had a tremendous rear udder and a nice rump. Little bit lacking strength. We have two heifers that are due in August, also both seems te be lacking some strength.

Re: Measland Duplex

I should have one milking emoticon Bloody got two wagyu bulls so we could sell the calves. Bloody 16 heifers they were in with, heifers were supposed to start calving on 1 march, its now 20th april, four have calved, two are springing, we exported 6 and the rest are in calf but not for at least another month emoticon lazy sods of sodding bulls. If it were a jersey bull they would all be calved by now!

This being relevant to the topic, one of the ones that is another month away is a duplex out of one of my best emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Measland Duplex

I have a pair of twin Enzo's due to calve in this summer. He was a Titanic brother to Duplex that I sampled through Excalibur. They are as nice a set a heifers as I have in that group. I'll keep you posted on how they turn out. I heard at one time Duplex's fertility was an issue. Is that rumor true?

Re: Measland Duplex

His fertility was a massive problem when we were using him, couldn't get a thing in calf. I think it appeared to be a specific batch, the first batch we received was fine, but the second batch was were we had troubles, and a lot of others did too.

The duplex that calved down poor has just gotten worse and looks like she will shrivel up and die.The vet can't find anything wrong with her but I suspect there must be an undetectable problem with her.Maybe not the bull's fault then!

A second one that is bred from two 92 point dam's is doing much better and in time will develop into a good cow.

Just doing some trawling through some of the second crop bull figures and I noticed that Duplex has an astonishing 95% GP in Canada! emoticon I know that this is only based on 20 or so daughters but it is still impressive.

Any on here got some calved?

Our 2 duplex calved in August. Both have a nice rump and are showing much angularity. One is lacking some strength. Both have excellent feet & legs, dry hocks and straight rear view. One is somewhat loose in her fore udder, but have a tremendous rear udder. The other should have an higher rear udder, but shows a nice fore udder length. Both will score somewhere between 83 and 86 points I think.
